I had a week between gigs and dug out my 1" BJS bar for practicing. Come gig time I switched back to the 7/8" bar. It was like holding a small rock in my hand. Much better bar control.
Akin to training with leg weights.

Anyone else do this?

oh...I thought by "bar training for honky-tonks" you meant building up your alcohol tolerance and mug lifting arm, not to mention your eye squinting for the cigarette smoke. I always work on those things between gigs...oh yeah, and the bullet bar too.

I have a one inch dia. for a 12 string and it reminds me of the medicine ball we used to toss around in basketball practice in school. Just keep the toes out of the way if ya drop it.
