Whew, I had fun last night!!! I went to see Paul Vendemmia in his regular gig with Ty Braddock and the Branded Men. Lo and behold, more steel players than you can shake a stick at!! Gary Lee Gimble, myself, Buddy Griffin, Paul, and another nice gentlemen who's name I've already forgot (the 90's were really good to me). As usual, Paul's tone was to die for, he played great, and every once in a while on a ballad would almost bring you to tears. Since I used to work for Ty as bass player, he had me up to play bass and sing a couple and Gary Lee joined in on steel. Whooooo doggie that boy was pickin' last night!!!! Then Buddy Griffin hopped on the steel and tore up both necks on Jambalaya and played just as purdy as you could ever hear on Waltz Across Texas. The other gentlemen claimed to have forgot his picks, so he didn't play, but who cares, what a great night!!!!!!! Paul, thanks for having us out. |

There was one other guy who got up and played great, Chris Forbes. By the way, Chris, the shy steel guy's name is Jeff Hyman. Too bad he "forgot" his picks, cause he plays a wonderful "Moon" sound on his Sho-Bud, and his band, Hat Creek Country, does alot of Waylon stuff. You should try to catch him sometime. Thanks for the plug.

Thank you Buddy, you're very kind. I'm hoping to run into you at one of Paul's jams sometime, you've got some cool licks I'd love to rip off of you. Jeff showed up at my saturday night gig with my new boss Jay D. Henley. What a nice guy!! I'm dying to hear him play, maybe we can all go out sometime to infest a bar he's playing in? |
