I too am a Master Mason raised at Lodge #123 F & A. M while open and it work.
Now I reside at 551 in Martin Tennessee.

Here is a poem I heard I thought you guys would like:

"There once was a man who just begun a willing worker and a widows son, born on the the level died on the square buried on a hill only three new where" My Dad told this to me when I was young, It wasn't until I became a Mason I understood it's meaning.

Herb, my dear departed friend & Brother, Wade Ray, wrote in the Masonic Bible he presented to me through Don Helms, as follows: "MASONRY DOSEN'T MAKE A GOOD MAN OUT OF A BAD ONE, BUT IT MAKES A BETTER MAN OUT OF A GOOD ONE" Ron Elliott 32
[This message was edited by Ron Elliott on 26 November 2004 at 03:57 PM.]

[This message was edited by Ron Elliott on 26 November 2004 at 03:58 PM.]

Good hunting, Jimbeaux! I could have told you myself if you'd asked, but then I'd have to... oh, never mind. Image

Have any of you seen the movie, "National Treasure" with Nicholas Cage? It has to do with the founding fathers (who were masons) and some of it is part of the movie.

Lee I don't know how I missed that; one of the few mistakes I've ever made.

Past Master of Charles T. Morton Lodge #232 (1994-95) in Norfolk, Virginia.

Member of Great Bridge Lodge #257 A.F.& A.M. in Chesapeake, Va.

Khedive Shrine Temple, member of "Knights of Mecca".

Great Bridge Royal Arch Chapter.

32nd degree in Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies.

I've always been proud to be a Mason so I display the Square & Compass insignia on all my vehicles and also on the front apron of my steel guitar and on my Telecaster. You'd be surprised at how many Brothers come up to me at gigs and give me the grip of a Master Mason. There are quite a few of us out there and in my area Masonry is quite strong. We have some of the oldest Lodges in the United States with Norfolk #1 dating back to 1737, Williamsburg #5 at approximately the same time frame. George Washington's old Lodge is still active as well. The old Lodge building is still open in the Williamsburg Historic District and quite a place to visit. We're going there for their annual stated communication on the 13th of December. The have an old Master's Chair which has been loaned out to a president of the United States for an occasion and some other artifacts.

He's not posting at the moment but my good friend John Floyd is a member of Widow's Son Lodge in Camden, North Carolina. John will become Senior Warden this coming Masonic Years. A few years ago the Master of his Lodge gave me the great pleasure of raising Brother John and I'll be eternally grateful to him for that. John's become a wonderful Mason and very active in the Fraternity. I'm hoping he'll go to Williamsburg with us in December.......JH

I am currently a Fellowcraft Mason (Island City Lodge #215) and if all goes according to plan, I will be raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Jan. '05. I am also a very novice steel player. I can't believe the response on this topic. I never would have guessed so many brothers are steel players, or vice versa!

You are in for a treat ! Be sure to stay active in your Blue Lodge, for they need as many of us young bucks to take the helm for future generations of Masons.

Thanks guys for all the responses. This has been a great thread. Thanks Herb, Reece and others that helped explain our fraternity to others. Who knows, some one might want to become a Mason and Shriner. I am proud to be Masonic Steeler.

Is it true that you don't accept women as members? Why's that?

Thanks,

Because if we did, it would be a "sorority," not a fraternity. The Masonic group for women is The Eastern Star.
