Masons and Shriners

Post by Larry Hamilton »

I have seen the mention of some of our forumites being Masons and Shriners. How many Masons play steel? I am a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner.

I'm not "on the square" but I was in DeMolay for a while when I was a teen...my late Grandpa was 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite, was a Provost with Khartum Shrine; I used to think his Fez was the coolest thing when I was a little kid Image

I was raised Master Mason in Dallas Texas Lodge 147, and later went through the Scottish Rite for my 32nd degree then on to become a Shriner.

Pap and GranPap 32nd and I was in DeMolay for quite a spell. Petitioned and studying for EA and a little thing called Vietnam in 1962 interrupted my studies and I've never gotten back to it. My old GranPap was first Native American in this lodge 1928.

I was raised to the degree of Master Mason in Onion Creek Lodge #220, Austin TX. Among the brethren present were Bobby Bowman and Johnny Bush.

I am a 32nd degree Mason, but not a Shriner.

I'm Past Master of McAllen Lodge #1110 AF&AM. I'm also both a Scottish Rite Mason and a York Rite Mason. Haven't joined the Shriners yet. Those guys are a little too wild for me! Image

Lee, absolutely. Brother Lee Baucum was there completely in spirit, and in fact was one of the men who finally nudged me enough to complete my petition. He also presented me, in absentia at my raising, the beginning of my personal Masonic library.

I was raised in 1954: Lodge 118, Memphis. Master Mason. I'll bet if Ole Barne's computer were up, he'd probably say Count Me In. John Hughey has also been ENLIGHTENED. I think Barney Miller is 32nd. ---j---
