Live" EB/dva Duo Shuffle mp3: hope you enjoy it
played a short duo gig last weekend, with Eric Brace of Last Train Home.
The audience responded quite positively.
So here is a rhythm-section-less shuffle tune :"Tonight" by Karl Straub (4.5 MB mp3)
generally "stream of consciousness" steel accompaniment with distinct west-coast influence... there are a few muffed notes on my part, but what the hey...I was covering for a 9 piece band!
'98 Zum U12, '68 Fender Twin Reverb w/ WeberVST California 15"; Two Geo. L cables and a Goodrich L120 volume pedal.
As always: "If you like it, Tell us about it won't you?"
------------------
"I've got the 'ZB Jeebies™' !"
"Pickin' it 'old school' on the Pedizzle Stizzle"

good call Tim... thanks for paying such close attention.<SMALL>It lends itself to Tom's solo on Buckaroo.</SMALL>
That 2nd string -.5 is the key to Tom's Buckaroo solo. I tabbed a piece of it in this thread.
Quoting Tom's Buckaroo solo is a great "launch pad" for soloing on this tune; Some nights I shoehorn even more paraphrased parts of Tom's solo in (not just the first two phrases) as a tribute to my hero. Most times I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in the room that "gets it". But that's OK... I know
Thanks for listening! And for letting me know...

DVA.. just funnin' my friend!!Wanted to raise your eybrows a little!.. VERY cool stuff. and BIG west coast flavor! Nice tasty fills framing the vocals.
You're a lucky guy.. Many of us steel players have been dealing with singers that turn and scowl when we add a fill, or when the steel can actually be heard at all. The singer you were working with is top notch, and as near as I can determine from a recording, seems to LOVE singing with a steel guitar supporting his fine vocals..
I REALLY liked the Buckaroo rip,and the way you came out on the minor chord....Very nice playing.. I'll bet your band with that guy is KILLER!!! bob

Shades of Moon! Good job, Dave!
Of course, for the benefit of the "newbies", there's lotsa ways to do the "Buckaroo lick" without a pedal dropping the 2nd string, (though each way sounds a little different). You could also use a reverse bar slant on the same strings (2,5,6) or use 6,7,8 and the "B" pedal or...well, I guess there's half a dozen ways to get the same notes, and they're a classic!

yes Mr. H, there are. That's both the beauty and the frustration of this magnificent beast of a machine that has chosen us to play it... I was just sharing my path to enlightenment...<SMALL>there's lotsa ways to do the "Buckaroo lick" </SMALL>

then "Together Again" and "A-11" must really be painful<SMALL>I'll admit endless verses with the same melody and chords are not my bag.</SMALL>
(edit-to add more great repetitious tunes) as well as "Wildwood Flower","Will the Circle be Unbroken","Waltz Across Texas"- and that's just the W's
I'll let Karl know.
hope you didn't think it a waste of DownLoad time
<SMALL>you gave it an uplift by your presence and playing alone. Thank you for that.</SMALL>
Thanks for the kind words about my part in the procedings <FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Dave Van Allen on 17 February 2005 at 07:53 AM.]</p></FONT><FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Dave Van Allen on 25 February 2005 at 11:17 AM.]</p></FONT>

Hi Dave. Thanks for the tune
I just "broadcasted" your playing to a couple of collegees
here in Copenhagen (..Denmark, Europe). We were just closing down for the weekend( got a new microbrewery next door), and went to get the new "local beer", named "New York Lager",.. goes perfectly with your steel playing. So you’re world famous in downtown Copenhagen, Cheers Dave, you really carry that singer well. Jep
