Let me tell you how thoughtful some guys on this forum are...We have a man named Robert Myers from WV on the forum. I don't see him post a whole lot like some of us,or maybe I just never noticed his posts, whatever.
Anyway, Mr.Myers reads my post bellyaching about how my steel is popping thirds. Got some good advice from several forumites about the problem, most of which I already knew,also got some hairbrained ideas out of left field which left me scratching my balding head  . This very kind guy tells me to send him my address which I do,and a few days later in my mailbox,I find a small box and open it,and inside are either 32 or 33 .011 stings. 2 are SIT and the rest are GeorgeL...
Think about this for a second my friends. At any local music store, a plain .011 is a buck a pop. So Robert Myers sends $32 worth of gear to a complete stranger,and PAYS POSTAGE for the priviledge!.. A man I have NEVER met mind you.. This is not the first time this has happened here.. Ed Naylor sent me a small part several months ago for a guy I know here in NY, and paid shipping and didn't charge for the part.
The best part of the package that Mr. Myers sent was the cereal box[Golden Graham Smores??]that he cut down by 2/3 and covered with red paper to make a very neat little shipping box!
Anyway, just wanted to let you folks know the kind of guys we "converse" with on a daily basis. The worst part about this forum is the fact I'll never get to know any of you on a personal level... That bugs me at times,because some of the personality of each of us bleeds through the type, but not near enough..
I'd consider it an honor to be able to shake hands ,share a laugh or two,show off a few of my best cheap licks,and steal a few of yours.. that goes for 99% of the nice folks I've "met" here...truly kind and thoughtful is the persona of MOST on this forum. At least thats the "vibe" I am getting through this little monitor I am staring at... bob |

I agree there are some real nice folk here on the forum.
Ted Hughes, sent me Jeff Newman's C6 workshop video, and only charged for shippin.
Reggie Duncan sent me about 15 Gospel sound tracks(very good tracks to boot) for the purchase of a set of strings.
Another forumite sent me Jeff Newman's Gospel course, made it himself, done up a GREAT job(fixed it in a plastic folder) included the CD, and only wanted shippin charges. There have been several more that have sent me stuff that's really helped me out, and I can't say how much I appreciate it. Very nice folk here on the froum.

Hey Bob it was my pleasure and Rick thanks for the kind words. Tell those little girls of yours hi for me and I'll have to get down and see you again soon. Bob, I hope those strings help you out with your problem. I really don't think it's the guitar and be sure to let us know what the outcome is.
I've had help from guys on this forum also, like Rick and that coffee drinkin' Joe Sapp and Ken Fox and others so if I get a chance to give something back it is my pleasure.
Bob if those strings take care of things, order a set of Jagwires from b0b and I bet you won't go back. Good luck.

| Yeah no kiddin about this Forum bringing out the generous in folks: Ricky Davis and James Morehead each drove I don't know how many miles between Austin and Dallas to bring my newly-purchased Marlen to me, without ever having met me at all! And then Bill Llewellyn made a specially mixed version of TYC at my request, just to help an unknown new guy (me) by splitting out Bill's lovely psg part into a separate track. This is just a couple months of Good Deedsmanship! |

I had need of a part for my Emmons PP. This guy emailed me for my address and said he had what I needed. I recieved the part and never got a response from him on how much the part was. Thanks Jerry Roller.

| I have to add something to this thread. Bob Myers also helped me when I bought my first pro steel. Totally re-rodded the steel and fixed things that I didn't know could be messed up in the first place. I had to make him take money for his time. Of course, he refused. What a great guy. Now that I have gained more knowledge of the steel, I know Bob saved me hundreds of dollars and travel time!! He is also a great guy to hang around with. Good man. |

Hey Bob! Tried to email you too. Didn't know what happened. No, all is okay here--now. Had a lot of blood pressure problems that needed worked on and felt like crap 90% of the last 4 months or so. Glad to hear you are playing down at Jim's place! Get this, Hodge is in town and there is supposed to be a jam at Jim's sometime in the next few weeks. He asked me to come. Probably be good fun if you were there. I'll write you soon.

Well I have to add my 2cents worth to this thread!! To all the good people I have dealt with in the US and the UK, people like Tommy Cass who did a whole load of work on my last Emmons and charged me next to nothing for it! as he "did`ent want me to have it till it was right" also put me up in his home, collected and delivered me to airports etc etc etc,And Scotty for lugging a "Walker" seat (complete with sidecar) all the way from St.L cos he was coming over anyway.And so many more of you that I have had the pleasure of doing business with!!!
I agree, on the whole steelies are "Good people". JD |

| Mr.Ward: My father used to call 'em Mountain Williams! He was from Pax,WV down near Beckley. He played steel back after WWII in Baltimore and told me about playing down in WV on a radio station. I was really young, but remember going once to the radio station. Are you from them parts? |

I'd like to add a thanks to Jerry Roller as well, for sending me an Emmons nameplate when I needed one. Super guy.
Bobby Bowman has also went out of his way to be helpful to me too.
Last, and certainly not least, is my friend Duane Dunard. I've met Duane in person just one time, but he's practically family now. In fact, I've got family who's not been as good to me as Duane has! This guy is TOPS!
I think steel guitarists are a notch above the rest in general!
