How much time is your computer stealing from you??i notice i spend more and more time on it.and to me this is not good. I have made a new promise to myself,to do less on it.yes i love it,but missing out on to many other things.i have 5steels to do work on and practice, and trying to design new steel for myself.time to stop.my 4 wheeler is setting idol, and i love to ride!i just keep watching the forum see what someone has to say,but as of tonight i'm cutting my time to one hr.a day! just wondering if i'm the only one having problems with this??? farris

It's called balance.

I spend lots of time on the PC, for both business and pleasure. I also spend lots of time practicing music..everyday...

If one is spending mindless time on the PC and are not balanced with other things that you enjoy..or perhpas sshould be doing...then THATS when the scale is tilted in the wrong direction.

I have been under the weather this fall, and spent too much time here too.

The scale of balance I worry about Is the bathroom one.
And this all must affect the 7th inning stretch of our rear ends too.

I work on a computer at my day job quite a bit plus I love to fly the flight sim and play NASCAR at night. I have to drag myself away from it sometimes. The Forum sure hasn't helped my work production since I am constantaly checking in to see what is being talked about.

I enjoy the computer, don't do the chats and all that kind of stuff, but I do read the forum daily, so I think my playing is much better as a result of computing,,if it had not been for the steel forum I might still be winding my butt and scratching my watch.
It is the most informative place for a steel wanna-be, and to be able to read the pioneers thoughts and expierances, is out of this world.
Thanks B0B for allowing me to be a part of this wonderful place.
It doesn't take from my practice on steel, it gives me something to practice. The new friends I have aquired from this is priceless.

Love you all
Wayne

For me, the positive effects of the PC outweights the negative. Especially when it comes to communicating with people and players like you lot,- for a guy living in Norway the internet has opened up many doors and provided me with many useful contacts.

There's another box in my home I consider getting rid of though, and that's the TV. It's totally pacifying and seems to drain my energy and steal my time. Once it's on it's hard to turn it off, and I've found myself watching stuff late at night that's totally useless to me. That's when I start thinking about how I could have used those hours for practicing, composing or recording.
So I wouldn't be surprised if I just sell it,- I can get the news from radio and internet, and if I want 'entertainment' I can throw a DVD in my studio PC (and get the greatest sound too).........

My computer is indespensible, and does not detract from my steel playing, but has made it more efficient. For example, I played a gig this weekend. The band was new to me. I went to their web site where they had a song list. Some songs were standards, and some new to me, with no oportunity to practice with them. With the computer, I was able to listen to all of the songs, identify the key and changes. I made a song list, practiced what I needed to, and went to the gig prepared. They gave me a song list on arrival, compared it to mine , and the night went slicker than ... All in all I could not have done as much and as fast without the computer. So I got the job, learned the music, and came prepared and professional. Did the computer help? Hell Yeah

My computer runs 24 x 7.....I check the Forum anywhere from once to a dozen times per day....whatever. I've learned so much from the Forum and the benefits have been tremendous. The email has made it possible for me to communicate with both old and new friends from around the world....replacing some of those friends that have already passed on. The TV however has been gnawing away at my time as the wife finds some really great day time movies and of course I thoroughly enjoy History Channel, etc. I've got to settle down tho' and learn to utilize BIAB ASAP as there is so much I want to do musically but I get overwhelmed by all of the many chunks of information contained in their instructions. Oh well.........

It's indispensible to me, too. Because of the internet, I can work 80% of the time at home, get REAL news from the BBC, Reuters etc.
A) I had to cancel my cable TV not because of the money, but because of the time drain - I'd catch myself in a trance, staring at garbage. First I'd get mad at the actors, announcers and reality twits for acting so stupid, then I'd get mad at the writers and producers for thinking I'm stupid enough to sit there in a trance watching actors acting stupid, then - finally - I'd get mad at ME for watching such crap. So, I'm paying the cable company to make me mad? They should be paying me! That's what work's for.
B) I have no idea what progress I'd have made on the steel without the forum, but it wouldn't be near as much I'm sure - you old guys listening to Emmons or Jernigan must have felt like Neanderthal Man watching a sports car zip by, thinking "what the *%@!?"
C) Hey Jennings, do you know that you can increase the text size on your display by going to "View" in the toolbar and then "Text Size" and "Increase?"
