Retired Military
Just wondering if there is any retired military in the forum. I retired from the Navy in Dec. 77 as a Chief Petty Officer. Spent time in San Diego, Cal., Morocco, Adak, Alaska, Okinawa, Washington DC (Pentagon), and retired out of Norfolk, Va. It was definitely an experience. Can't say that i would do it again, but glad that i did it. Met wonderful people at all my duty stations, and still keep in contact with some. Wishing all a very happy new year.
God bless you and yours. Harold

Retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant in Oct 1977, with 27 years. It was a great experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Worked for the Air Force for another 14 years retiring again in 1993. I'm sorry I have to sit this one out, but, ALL of our military are doing a fantastic job and we shold be proud of them and support them in every way possible.

Bill, I think our troops are doing a fantastic job and I support them, and our leaders in all their endeavers. What I meant about not knowing if I would do it again was the finiancial part. As you know we really had long hours and low pay. Started a new career in the coal mines after retirement. Involved in a roof fall and disabled at the age of 48. Was very glad to have served our great country, and if was called and able would do again.

Sixteen years US Army....didn't serve long enough to qualify for retirement benefits; only 12 years active and 4 years Reserve.
A conflict of duties between the Army and the Oklahoma City Fire Department required that I give up one of them so I accepted an honorable discharge from the Army. I did receive some credit for my Army service when I retired from the OKC Fire Department.

Sort of like Jack...
Eight years (1956-1964) Air Force, fighter crew chief. Another 25 years with the Dept. of Defense. Was very close to the warfighters and special ops folks. Very proud of my 33 years of Defense work and glad to have made a contribution to our nations defense.
I am extremely proud of my Marine nephew, now on his second tour in Iraq with the 1st MEF.
