I work for a Nashville TV Station and awhile back we ran a movie called "Poisoned by Love". Does anyone recognize this Steel Player who was in the Movie. Nick

He somewhat resembles Hank DeVito, don't know if it's him though.

Gary, are you sure it's John? I don't know about that... I've known John since 1973 or 74, and he's never played a Sho-Bud to my recollection. Plus, I remember him having a beard even back in the 70's. When was the photo taken?

That movie came out in '93. Looks a little young to be John.

You might be right about it being John Ely. Hey Herbster, Didn't you tell me John used to own my '66 Emmons bolt-on. Anyway, here's a current picture of him.

If that movie came out in 93, I'm sure it's NOT John Ely. John was moving to Hawaii about that time, we saw each other all the time, and he didn't look like that. Also, John's right hand positioning doesn't look like what the kid's doing.

And Cal is correct in that he looks pretty young to be JE.

Yes, Nick. John used to be the owner of your '66 bolt-on.

Hey Nick,
It looks a lot like a fellow I know named Jimmy Roberts.Jimmy use to live and work in Nashville and at one time played a Sho-Bud that looked a lot like the one in the picture.Jimmy now live here in the Atlanta area.

Herb,
I don't know John personally..have only talked with him at a couple of AATW gigs in the past (quite a few years back). Also never saw him playing a ShoBud either. But it sures resembles him, and the hand positioning in the TV picture and the picture Nick furnished are sure similar.
But it wouldn't be the first time I was mistaken.

Did this fellow actually play the steel in this movie? Most movies I've ever seen with a steel player in them usually just had an actor playing the part.

My guess: "Henry Strzelecki", a native of Birmingham, Alabama; famous Nashville producer, who wrote "Long, Tall Texan" who moved to Nashville in 1960 where upon he worked for virtually every BIG NAME in Tennessee.
If he's not the one your asking about, he's certainly a twin.
