Today I received a copy of the video of Bobbe Seymour and Gene O'Neal. Bobbe also sent me the Christmas CD "A Bobbe Seymour Christmas Card". The video has some fantastic playing by Bobbe, Gene and even Herby Wallace. I have yet to hear the CD but I am sure it will be great as well. My thanks to Bobbe Seymour for his kindness and such a big heart. Bobbe is a great friend as well as a great steel player. All I have read on this forum about Bobbe being a first class guy and a steel player has turned out to be true. I understand that Gene O'Neal has passed away and that is a tremendous loss to the steel guitar community. He was a teriffic steel player. I recommend the video to all who have not purchased it. Once again, Thank You Bobbe.

Eddie, The video was the first time I had ever seen Bobbe or Gene play. They did some amazing things I had never seen before. Of course, we all know Herby Wallace is a great player. Great video.

I got to see Gene O'neal play a few times down here in Florida while he was working with a local Florida group. On one outdoor gig at a big water park four or five bands were hired and I was excited because it was a two show deal and I knew Gene would be there and I would get to spend the afternoon with him and steel some licks. The guitar player in our band told Gene that I was hoping to get him to show me something so right before the start of the second show Gene walks over to my Emmons and calls me over as he sits down at my steel.I,m thinking how great is this a personal lesson on my own steel from Gene O'neal. As he got seated behind the steel he ask did I want him to show me something,I answered yes and he said to give him my thumb pick, which was a perfect fitting blue boogaloo. He took my pick and hooked it on the biggest string on the E-9neck pulled it back by the tip like a bow and arrow and shot it out into the crowd that had gathered for the show and said there you go.My whole band burst into laughter while I was staring at him in amazment. After a few seconds I said that I was hoping for a lick or two,he said that he had listened to me on the first show and that my steel playing and guitar playing were fine and that I should move to Nasshville amd get a road gig because I could double up.This is probly a you had to be there stories but he was a cool guy and I felt I needed to tell this story. lakeshrk

Jerry, That is a fantastic story. I just found last night how Gene passed away. Such a tragedy to lose a fantastic steel player. It appears he was a fine individual as well and he was taken away from us too early. I just cannot say enough about Bobbe. I did not realize he was as great a player as he is. I might add I enjoyed the humurous side of Bobbe as well.

Paul, you are right about Gene going to soon.He was living only about an hour away and I could have went and heard him more often.I suggest to everyone that if there is a player or band that is verygood or that you enjoy seeing go now its later than you think. Also Paul you said you enjoyed the lighter side of Boobe.I think he is still trying to be funny and still playing great. lakeshrk

I too wanted the video. I hadn't seen Gene since the 60s at the Golden Nuggett in Vegas with the Judy Lynn show. The strings were a big plus and also sometimes there can be a surprise with an order from Bobbe. I just sat mesmerized watching Gene and Bobbe and I wasn't expecting Herbie Wallace; what a bonus. I'm hoping to see Herbie if he can make the show that Chuck Campbell is planning in Feb.

Before the video, I had only heard Gene's name mentioned around other playes an had seen his picture in some steel magazines. I did not know he had passed away. When did this happen.--------Eddie
