For years I have been teaching people to use the ring finger under style of blocking. Besides Donny Curtis and myself look who else uses it.

Speaking of the right-hand pinky-finger, did anyone ever notice Jerry Byrd using the ‘pinky’ folded under for harmonics? I've tried it it but, not a lot of success so far! ‘Harmonics’ have always been one of my biggest-problems connected to my playing!

Ring finger under is what came natural to me.
I block some of my lower strings with my palm but most is done with my ring finger under.
John, harmonics has always been a tough one for me to. I've always tried to pick the string with my middle finger and block the note with my ring finger. I tried somethin different last night and it works a lot better. I picked the string with my thumb and blocked with my ring finger. It's a lot easier that way for me.

Curiosity made me check it out...and surprisingly to me, I also fold that ring finger under....but that little finger is always extended for stability!

Buddy uses the tip of the ring finger and the heel of the hand to block.

fingers under is what in natural for me as well. I watched Weldon M and Jimmy C with their fingers out and I tried but could never get it to work. As far as harmonics. I go back to what Buddy E said about them. Practice and Practice and practice some more.

| I like to fold under my ring and pinky finger. I could probably leave my pinky out straight if I had to but not my ring finger. It's the way Tom Kiley taught me to play around 1960 and I still do it. |
