Dig them threads!!!

Post by Jay Fagerlie »

OK people,
I watch the Porter Wagoner show on RFD-TV, and I am always impressed by the clothes this guy (and band) wear. That to me is showmanship, givin’ the people more than a smile and an auto-tuner. “Class”-that’s what I think it is….”CLASS”.
The only recent acts that I know of that dress this nice is the Chris Isaac (sp?) band.
Any other current performers that actually care how they look?
Of course, there is no way that I could know what everybody wears, so don’t flame me if you are in the “Dressed to the Nines” crowd and I don’t know about it…. I’m just a rock-n-roll guy that really admires the “Look Ethic” of these performers.
Is there anyplace that you can get these kinds of clothes anymore?
Were they all custom, hand-made?
Anybody out there know?
I would LOVE to have some of these kinds of threads for my next gig…..or any gig for that matter

Jay

P.S. Hey b0b, if this is in the wrong section-go ahead and move it, I didn't know where to put it....

I saw Porter on the Opery in Sept...
man he stood out just fine.
Yes real class in the old scholl C n W way..

I think Jake Hooker and Bobby Flores really care to have a good pro look.

Jakes said to me he always thought a band should dress better than it's audience to look pro.
So he lives by those words too.
They look better than anyone within 15 miles of their performances.
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 10 December 2004 at 04:42 PM.]

I think most of those duds were from Nudie's Rodeo Tailor, which as I recall was in North Hollywood or thereabouts. Folks used to call them "Nudie Suits". He also made the suits the Flying Burritto Brothers were wearing on "The Gilded Palace of Sin". I visited the shop in the late '70's - some cool photos on the wall as I recall. I suspect it's long gone.

Some of us might not ever own a Nudie suit, but we can all live vicariously through the book Image

That's the stuff!
Now the hard part will be to convince the other guys in my band to wear these flashy duds...how do you suppose I could get a bunch of guys in a rock n roll cover band to don this attire?
Here we are:

Manuel is still at in Nashville, and has been doing it a long time now. A lot of what people think are "Nudie" suits are actually Manuel; Dwight Yoakam, Marty Stuart, Emmylou Harris, the Derailers etc. If you've ever seen my old pal Jim Lauderdale play he was probably wearing a Manuel suit, he seems to have a bunch of them (must be all those George Strait royalty checks!).

Nashville's big art museum is doing a major show of Manuel's work called: "Manuel; Star Spangled Couture". It will be in the same gallery that recently had Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monet and Picasso... so somebody's paying attention!
[This message was edited by Pete Finney on 10 December 2004 at 10:54 PM.]
