Last night on one of the local PBS stations they showed "Loretta Lynn: In Concert" which was shot in 1978 in Canada.

Anybody have any ideas about who was playing steel? He was tearin' it up "old school" (as in you don't hear people playing that busy behind singers these days) on an Emmons steel. It was really good stuff, and oddly enough they seemed to give the guy a lot of screen time.

Thanks Allan, I think you're right.

I did some searching on line and found some recent photos of Bob. It's tough to say for sure, but I think that's the guy.

Whoever it was, he was AMAZING!

Regardless of how one feels about what Loretta's doing lately (I personally like the new stuff), it's impossible to deny that she's one of the all time greats.

I saw that show a couple of months ago. It was, indeed, Bob Hempker. Fine player. Dave Thornhill on guitar, Zeke Dawson on fiddle.

About two weeks ago, I went to our Post Office here in Maple Grove, Mn. Quite to my surprize, was a new & beautiful bus parked in front, with Loretta Lynn in big letters on the sides & front, 99% sure they were eating at the Old Country Buffet, across the street! Small World?

It was Bob Hempker alright! I wish they would broadcast that concert on our PBS station here. I've said it before and I'll say it again. That man is one of best and most underrated players I've ever heard! He's been one of my 2 favorite players for years. Great guy too, very supportive of other players.

L.A,
