Thanks erik, I was standin' next to a bank of large screen TV's at the local Sears store, all of them tuned to CMT, when the tune came on. Got to point out the pedal steel work to several patrons who were also listening. Whilst the tune was playing I said it was probably Paul Franklin. They said "who?", so I explained in more detail. |

Paul did the steel work on "Some Beach" and Blake's hit "The Baby". Both tunes have great steel. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel |

Erik, re: your post, "some beach" is a double-entendre in this song; it's used both in the literal sense (e.g., "some beach, somewhere \ there's a big umbrella casting shade...") and in the colloquial sense (e.g., "well, he stuck that needle down deep in my gum \ and he started drillin' before I was numb \ some beach...").
It's a clever song. It was originally pitched to Blake as a Buffett-soundalike, but he wanted it to sound more country, so he had them pare down the number of instruments and honky-tonkify the guitar parts. |
