Gene Watsons newest, (I think)
Heard Gene's song about..."Hang Around this Honky Tonk in Houston..." and the steel ride in this song is wonderful. I'm still trying to figure it out before we have to play the song out.
It sounds alot like Milo Deering's style but I don't think Milo plays with Gene. Is that you Paul? It's sure a killer.

I think Corky Owens is still with Gene. He is a fine player and a heck of a nice guy. When I was still doing remotes for Steelradio.com I had Gene and Corky both on for interviews. Very interesting afternoon. I haven't heard this particular album you are talking about but the last couple Gene did (that I have heard) he was using Buddy Emmons. The Big E always sounds great but I think even more so on the last few Gene Watson albums. Just my opinion of course...

Hey guy's. The new album is called "Gene Watson Sings". Sonny Garrish played on this album. Everything else since the late 80's has been the great BE. Any album you find will have great steel. Gene is a steel guitar freak. There is talk about a box set being recorded using "The Farewell Party Band", with our arrangements of all the great tunes plus some new stuff. Keep your fingers crossed. The albums will be recorded in Houston,Texas.

Hey, Rich. I'm still here with Gene. I enjoyed Talking to you that day. That was a first for me. Billy, thanks for the kind words. Coming from a great player like you, it's a great compliment. I'll call soon. I've had some health issues slowing me down, but still want to talk about the Line 6. Thanks for being a friend.

Well... Guess that we got the answer from 'da man himself. Thanks Corkey for setting the record straight. Good to see you here amongst us. It's been awhile since I typed that E-mail a few months ago asking if you were 'da Steeler on the recording "Farewell Party". Keep up the good work.
Your Friend,
Gregg

Corky: If you happen to read this, I heard you play with GW at the Ky. Opry a few weeks ago. You are one great player. I have a question. Gene did a song called "This Old Swing". to me, that is one great song. I'd like to find it. Which CD is it on? If anyone else knows please tell me. Thanks --------Eddie

Eddie,
The song you are referring to is titled "Old Porch Swing" and it is on 2 of Gene's cd's. One is 'A Way To Survive', on Step One Records label and the other one is 'In Other Words' on Broadland Records. Unfortunately, both labels are out of business, but you might be lucky enough to find one out there somewhere.
Musically yours,
Leslie Elliott

I met Corky in Melbourne, AR at a Gene Watson show a couple of years ago. I told him that I had played the guitar and I really wanted to play steel. He supported me and told me about the Carter website and even introduced me to this great forum! He was a very nice guy and it was a great pleasure to meet him.
