Bob, I take my hat off to you. I tried having a band and it was super stressful. You had 4 different personalities to contend with plus try to keep the club owner happy. A real headache. |

I'm the leader of my Hawaiian Band called "The Island Echoes". It's a 3-piece band with me on Hawaiian Steel and Harmony Vocals and a singer playing Flat-top and a Upright Bass player. I call all the Songs and play all the lead/solos and play many instumentals and split the money 3-ways.
Here we are> "The Island Echoes".
Gotta love it.

I lead my western swing band, Beats Walkin'. (We'd have a lot more gigs if someone else were in charge of booking us...)

I've had many groups and occasionally take over the duties in the current country band I play with. I'd much rather just be the steel player but somebody has to do it. |

I was the bandleader at Gabe's a couple of times. A guy, who was just itching to sit in with a Nashville band, came up to me one night and asked: "Can anybody sing?". I said, "Well, I can't".

I'm the leader in my group "Unsanctified Gospel Revival". I have a mostly revolving lineup, except for forumite Orville Johnson and drummer Mike Stone. I book the gigs, do all the set list, attempt to write the charts (although everybody in the band writes better charts than I).
It's wonderful, and a pain in the rear. After every gig, I am totally exhausted, much more so than as a side man, but I wouldn't give it up for the world. |

Ricky, glad to see someone has picked up the Haw thing in the Austin area. I gave up the Austin gigs about two yrs ago due to all that traffic. Too much for an old man. I am doing gigs in Killeen,Temple, Waco, and smaller towns around. I hope you don"t mind but I have given your name and email to the hotels, etc, that I used to play for in Austin and also to members of private partys and country clubs in the area. Much success. Hey Ricky,
Are you also the costume manager? Looks like you all have the same kind of sneakers.

Hi Ricky, that's DB, right? Please say hello from his norwegian steeler, he's truly a great singer. I guess you don't do "Meanest jukebox in town" in this band |

C.C. yes I don't mind at all my brother; pass my email to anyone...we'd love it.
Yes I'm the costume designer also..ha...those are old style "Van's" boat shoes.
Tore; yes that is D.B.Harris....and we of course do the paycheck song in our country band; but not this one.ha....oh and that is Billy Horton on the bass; from the Horton Brother's band....>it's an all-star cast man..
You should hear D.B. Sing those Hawaiian songs like Marty Robbins did...waaaay cool.

I WAS the band leader/Electric Guitar/Pedal Steel and Harmony vocals for Janie Fricke.
Just resigned my position with Janie at the end of August to take a position as the Band director for Eagle Mountain International Church.
I miss playing with Janie....and being the band leader of a National act is not as challenging as being the band leader for a club act. I have done both.
