| Who were some of your favorites from this group that were such a complement to the great steelers of that time? Some of mine are: O'dell Martin, Bobby Whitton, Earl Erb, Leon Rhodes, Steve Chapman, Gregg Galbraith to name a few. Watching these guys play live on those "package shows" of the day or on the various syndicated T.V. shows was a huge inspiration for me. How about ya'll? |

Roger,
I guess you are referring to Jimmy Colvard.
From what I've heard,he's the one that came up w/ the "Shotgun Guitar" style that was heard on Dave Dudley's,"Six Days On THe Road" intro. I did one session w/ him,back in the mid 70's. He sure was a "card". Its too bad his life ended so tragically.

| Yes, Jimmy Colvard was the one that came up with the Popping style that he played on Dave Dudleys "Six Days on the Road" which was recorded here in Mn. Jimmy, at age 15, was leader on some "Package Shows" here in Mn. in 1958, & he hired me to play steel on these shows, some of the artists were. George Jones, Wanda Jackson, Norma Jean, Bobby Lord, & Texas Bill Strength. In 1969, I moved to Nashville with my new wife & lived with Jimmy & his wife Laura,while I worked the road with several artists,& Jimmy was doing many sessions, the way his life ended here in Mn. in 1977 was a real tragedy! au |

I hate to get all gooey, Frank, but you do plenty of "complementing" on guitar when the great steelers come to town for Leonard's show.
In fact, you didn't even take your steel out last time!

| Frank, I feel honored to be included in your list of players.There were many great road guitar players during that time and just about all of them were and still are my friends. The 60's and 70' were some of the best musical years of my life. |

J.D. Hoag (John) was Marty Robbins guitar player...now living in the Phoenix area.
I walked into a club and heard a steel but there was none on stage, and J. D. does it without a bender.
A truely nice guy to go with that talent. |

How 'bout ol' Marvin Lanier or however you spelled it who played for Don Gibson. He picked pretty good and that hairdo was awesome. Also I've heard a couple of posts mentioning about Jimmy Colvard's death being tragic but no one mentioned how he died. How did he die? Thanks, JH

| I heard Larry Black playing with Linda Hargrove"Bluejean Country Queen"at the San Antonio fair in about 1975.The band was out of nashville ,Larry was great. |

| how about wayne moss w/ brenda lee for all those years and a wv. guy to boot great guitar player and has a recording studio in nashville great guy and the last time i heard him play i think i was 13yr's old and he was 17 just a great guy and from the great state of wv like so many other's we have from here. |
