I want to say thank you to a friend I have known since long before we shaved. We were teenagers when we met. Bob was a student of a
Fender dealer at the time and I was able to
get Bob a Fender Triple neck Custom guitar which in a short time he and a partner Luke
Lucas sounded as they were playing many years
They were polished and sharp on the bandstand
and their talents blended with each other.Together listening to them sounded like
Speedy and Jimmy B. They had it down pat.
Thanks to Bob who spearheaded my induction into the Hall Of Fame as many of the nominating board had never heard of me until
Bob made them aware of my backround.
So to you Bob..thank you for making my wife
so happy in St.Louis, and for all your support over the past 55 years when we were
just a couple of kids.
Best to you and all you have contributed to the steel guitar which was unknown to many until the PSGA was formed.
Thanks to all the nominating board who cast their vote for me. Winnie Winston, Herb Steiner, Fred Layman, De Witt Scott, Bobby Caldwell, the late Jeff Newman and Tom Bradshaw,my thanks to all of you.
My wife wanted to see that show in St.Louis if it were the last thing in her life and it seems as though her wish will come true.
Thanks again.

Hey Jody....although we have been friends for a few years I was so pleased to finally meet and hang out with you and Maralyn in St Louis!
You told me you were going to play there but I didnt know you were being inducted into the HOF.........I was very proud of that......and to see that Marilyn had made it there with you made me feel real good too!
Also made me feel good to be able to assist getting your gear down and onto the stage.
You know I dont pray..but the thoughts I have for both of you in these trying times are pretty close.
Your Buddy

Jody: I remember sending you the words to a Connie Francis song; Togeather, seems like years ago. Bob Maickle first found them on this Forum and brought it to your attention. You took them to heart then and made it through the dark. I pray that you will find the same comfort today and tomorrow because the words have not changed; nor the players in your story. Only the time is different but it would seem to me that now you have hundreds of new friends here that are with you and watch the Forum daily for news about you and your family.
Warmest Regards, Paul & Caleb |

Hi Jody,
I'm enjoying your recordings, especially the Arthur Godfrey shows. It was great to hear you at the Convention. I agree with what you mentioned about Bob Maickel. He is a tireless advocate for the steel guitar and a great fan of yours. The PSGA Newsletter is definitely a labor of love for Bob, and the steel guitar community benefits from all of his efforts. I'm glad to see you on the Forum, Jody, but I'm sorry not to get to meet you at the PSGA Show in Connecticut.

I want all of you to know that I am reading every word you write. I'm not playing hit and run. I am absorbing every comment made here.
Tony Davis was a friend to me for a few years over the Forum and e mail, but more than that he helped me in St.Louis when I needed help with my gear. I am only sorry we didnt have enough fun because my mind was elsewhere. When I knew the circumstances of my wife's health prognosis it took the heart out of me and the hall of fame induction although I did apreciate the honor was anti climatic to know that my wife had a short time to live.
Paul Graupp always says things that touch me and has done it again..Yes I remember that incident Paul.
John P. who is probably the best friend anyone could wish to have and I wished you would send me your mailing address so I can send you a cd please.
Chuck Lettes who I admire for his talent,I thank you for your compliments.
Joey Ace who has helped me many times with his support and advice and friendship and has put me on the moon and a trip to India at no expense to me. Thats what I call a friend Joey and his wife Sally have helped me
keep my self together to be strong for my wife, but I find that difficult sometimes.
Bob Maickle and I shared the pain I am living with day to day,you see my wife is dying as the cancer has spread throughout her body and I am not ashamed to tell anyone how she had suffered all during the trip to St.Louis, but it was Bob Maickle who gave Marilyn that last chance to see me honored and that is why I wanted to pay him the tribute that I am doing here.
He has been there many times for me,but this was the most important thing to me wife and Bob made that come through for her.
Smiley Roberts..what can I say about him other than he is the best. Gene Jones another
so many have helped me over the past years with my dopey stories and threads, Bill Hamner another who has helped..Keoki, and so many many others I could think of.
But for the one more time I want to thank Bob
for what he has done for me.
I will be staying off here for a while and watching my wife as we are here with no help
with the exception of waiting for hospice to help us.
Its not easy looking into the eyes of someone
you love and realize that someone has only a short time to live. So I must spend as much time as I can to be with her and enjoy the memories we both shared all those years.
A special thank you to a member of this Forum who is not known to many of you but well known to me, Everett Cox who has been a true blue friend and offered his help time and time again and gone beyond what I expected.
Howard R who I have depended on to be my mate
in humor. Please understand I am letting you aware of the circumstances only because although it's going to take a miracle to change things, keep Marilyn in your prayers.
To Donna Dodd who took that nice photo and sent it to me and It sits on our dresser we both appreciate your kindness and thoughtfullness.
If I neglected to mention every one's name I am sorry. But I am rememering all of you.
Again thank you BOB MAICKLE.
God Bless All Of You.
I hope I can once again post again and will to thank the gentleman and his people who did such a great job on the Hot Club Of America. Jack Smith of the Tape and Disc Factory, he is the best.
Big John Bechtel who has a big and generous heart.
PS Dave Van Allen for all he has done. I appreciate that as well Dave.
Until next time which will be soon.
My Best to ALL OF YOU even those who think I am a bit nutty. Thank You.
Jody, and my family each one of them Thank you all as well.
Howard keep your pants on in Norwalk Please
. Sorry for the speech butwhat else did you expect?

Bob Maickel and I go back about 30 years. I have admired the work he did with the PSGA which I have been a member for over 30 years. I have never met Bob, but we have exchanged Emails and has always been considerate in publishing my articles in the PSGA Newsletters.
I have a cassete of his hot steel playing, and he is no slouch on that C6 either.
Jody, my friend, you have been handling yourself wtih great courage . I am praying for a Miracle for Marilyn......al |

Jody--It is so important to me that you should know how much attention I am paying to what you are going through. I always prefer to keep it private--public displays do not carry more weight than quiet feelings--but I can't stand the thought that you might not be aware of the depth of my feelings--and I'm sure there are others out here as well. Peace. |

Dear Jody:
I was just a face in the crowd at the convention. If you are nutty, I hope that someday I can check me into the same assylum.
Thank you for sharing you with all of us.
