I have had an advance copy for several months--not sure if it is out or not.

But it's waaay cool....

The pedal steel guitar isn't normally associated with clubby electronica or languid drum'n'bass, but pedal steel vet Cole shows that with a bit of ambition and attitude, he can take his favourite contraption anywhere.
Apparently the album was four years in the making, but Cole's patience was rewarded with a batch of cunningly-wrought tracks featuring guest appearances by Alabama 3, Groove Armada, Trash Palace and a whole bunch more. So you thought the pedal steel meant Nashville and Tammy Wynette?

Then think again, and stroke your chin in wonderment as Cole glides menacingly above the blippy, hustling beat of Milkshake Roadmap (with help from drummer Neil Conti and processing by Brian Eno), gets trashy and low-down with Alabama 3 on Are You Ready for Some Country, and "blends acid house with bluegrass" over Luke Vibert's shape-shifting groove on Surf Acid Hoedown.

This one is sure to be a forum favorite...

I've heard that BJ plays his own version of an E13th tuning with a C# note between his 4th string E and B.... Is this true or does anyone have a copy of his copedant? Thanks in advance..... Jerry H.

Jerry,

My tuning is a slightly modified E9/B6 with a C sharp on the second string. There are are a few other differences as I don't use a 'C' pedal.
Re 'Trouble In Paradise'. This album is only released in the UK at present, a situation I hope to remedy in the near future.

That's good news to me. I really enjoyed the collaboration between B.J. Cole and Luke Vibert called Stop The Panic. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see him when he came across the USA on tour.
Please let us know when this is released in the USA!

Hey BJ,
Mine is a slightly modified E9/B6 also. It's like a 12 string extended E9 except that I tune the 2nd and 9th strings to C#. I've really enjoyed some of the things I've heard on recordings by you and hope to get one of your CD's sometime in the future. Have a good 'un, JH

BJ, I would imagine this was mostly not done with that great old Bigsby you played in Newberry UK.

Great set by the way. I really enjoyed it.

I have never seen pedal travel like that...

It is one of the hippest CDs I have heard in a long time.

The sounds produced by the DJs along with the sounds produced by the steel seems very natural to me. I am not suprised that the young dance crowd loves it.

Although I enjoy every track on the CD, I must admit I have a soft spot for '' Elle sait où elle va, Are You Ready for the Country, Alert the Sax Police and Casino Tan''

David-B.J.'S Bigsby is actually one of the "P.A. Re-Issue" models that were made my David Peterson and myself-That particular guitar was originally delivered to Herb Steiner and then bought by Lee Jeffries-I just sent B.J. some more parts to add another string change-I'd like to hear the stuff he has recorded with it!
