Hi Lonnie, I am pushing 71. I no longer play gigs as such. About 99% of my playing is for nursing homes and alzheimer units. I am playing a Hawaiian gig for seniors this week, a repeat of last year, and I will play a 2 hour session of all steel music for a State Fair this month. This will be my fifth time for the Fair. I play a total of 2 to 4 times per week. I have no intention of quitting until I absolutely have too, or the people can't stand me anymore and start booing or hissing.
I am still having too much fun!

I have already had 72 birthdays and still pick each Thursday night and other times now and them. Hughey is almost as old as I am and Billy Robinson is a year or 2 older. It ain't right that those guys still pick like that. What am I missing" Oh!!! talent, huh. I knew there had to be something wrong.

If we're talking working steel guitarists, Bud Isaacs is 76 years of age.

I am not a WORKING Pedal Steel Player for money anymore .
But I still play freebies for the older people.
Playing and knowing all those old tunes helps bring back memories for them of when they were younger....al

I'm only 40/36 and I'm still at it. I play bass in my jazz trio usually 3 afternoon gigs weekly, banjo in my 7 piece dixieland band, r/guitar with the Big Band (17 pieces) which I founded in 1991 (see: trocadero.ca ), and steel with a local Hawaiian group as well as teaching twice weekly some 42 (last semester) adult seniors over 55 to play either Hawaiian steel guitar or ukulele at our local Senior Rec Centre. Age is merely a number. I'm gonna hang in 'till I drop !

74 and still going but not strong, here it is 3 40 have not gone to bed yet, just returned from Quitman playing a senior dance 4 hours straight thru, 5 hours Wed. nite and may play Sat. nite at Mt Zion.
We cover about 350 mile a weel playing.
A bad car wreck in 97, fell 12 feet from a tree, left me with about 40% use of my right arm and right leg. If the Lord lets me i will never quit, I love it, playing for seniors that like the pure country music.
About ten couples came over to me last night, gave me a big hug and told how much they enjoyed the music, that is pay enough
to keep me going.
Also the groupe we play with are all 30 year plus playing exp., they are great.
