Hello from Sweden - new member

Post by Per Berner »

Hi guys, a new member calling.

I’m your typical amateur ”bedroom steeler”, though my guitar is standing proudly in my living room. I play just for fun and mostly by myself. In these parts of the world it’s hard to find fellow musicians who share a love for straight country music, and even harder to find someone who can make time for rehearsals when you can. Sometimes I make my own multi-track recordings, and I did a few local sessions in the eighties, when I also was a member of a not very good country band for a short time.

I began playing steel as a teenager in the late seventies, but my interests veered off into building guitars (regular electrics, mostly) instead of playing them, so I hardly played steel at all for many years.

My love for the instrument never changed, though, and nowadays I try to find a little more time to play. I recently replaced my old AVM S10 with a beautiful Emmons Legrande II D10, so there’s no lack of inspiration - and certainly noone but myself to blame when it doesn’t sound the way it should!

Some players who have inspired me over the years are mainly Lloyd Green, Weldon Myrick, Sonny Garrish, John Hughey, Lucky Oceans, of course Buddy Emmons and lately also Ricky Davis.

All in all, it feels good to become a forum member after ”looking in over the fence” for a couple of weeks. The forum seems to be an endless source of wisdom, and for a someone who’s 45 (how did THAT happen...) it feels good to be one of the younger guys for a change!

Best regards,

Per Berner, Skövde, Sweden.

Welcome to the Board Per. As you have already discovered, there is a lot of wisdom here. I have learned a lot in my short time here. Good to have another Swede onboard!

Hello Per.

Like you i also am a new member.
Again.I was a member of the forum in 1997 or 1998.Sold all my steels and amps and started a family. What a shame of that Emmons LeGrandeII and that Sho-Bud Professional.Anyway i am building me a brand new steel from scratch and it seems to roll all in to place again for me.So i hope that i can be of some help to other steelplayers in the world.

Welcome Per. As a second generation American Swede I can't speak the language of my grandparents home country. It is sad to some degree but here in Southern California the second language needs to be Mexican, and I don't know that either.

Anyway, for my part, welcome the the Forum.

45 happens right after 44.
It just sneaks up at night.

Hej Per,

I'm a newbie at the forum as well. Have been using it as a source of information for a long time, but now I've finally gotten my act together and registred.

Hej, Hej Ulf,
I'm 73 year old and have been playing steel guitar for 58 years. I guess I don't know when to quit.

My dad and his family came from the area of the hydro dam west of Umea, and I still have relatives that live there. I fact I have a couple of cousins that live at Norfors.

Nice to see there are other people from there that are crazy enough to play steel guitar.

Hello Dale!
A ten minute drive upstreams from Norrfors there's another steeler, Peter Ivansson.
If you come visit your cousins we could arrange a steel guitar jamboree! Image
