Hello.
I am curious about an old record that I have by Billy Mize,a very nice 45,very Hawaiish in style, probably from the 60`s.
Tunes-"The windward isle/Little coco palm.
When I try a search on him, there is a lot of 45`s and LP`s coming up that I believe are vocals. Is this the same Billy Mize, and can anyone out there tell me more about the steeler Billy Mize? It also seems that he was a steeler for Skeets Mcdonald.
Looking forward to any info on him.
Best from Egil.

Hi Egil,

You might want to check out the Bear Family Records Website, they have a couple of new DVDs with material from the old Town Hall Shows (mid to late 50's) - Billy Mize is playing Steel on all of them! Great material!

Kind Regards, Walter

Hi Walter
Many thanks for the answer, and the link-great page!
So it seems like Billy is more a vocalist up through the years then a steeler? Or has he recorded more instrumentals then this 45??
The tunes on this 45 is very Hawaiian,no pedals in my opinion, but I might be wrong.Anyway-very good playing!

Egil, Billy took over the steel job on 'Town Hall Party' in '58 when Marian Hall left til '61/2, so he's not on ALL of the show's, but he's on a bunch non the less, as Walter mentioned. No matter who's on steel, every one of them shows is the real deal.

Eric,

Billy Mize had one of the best singing voice anyone would hear. On top of that he is a genuine good guy. Check out this web site for additonal Billy Mize info, and contact the guy running it (Glenn), I bet he could put you in touch with more info.
