I just got this email from Wishey Quinn in Ireland. I can't figure out who this steel player might have been -- perhaps John Ely?? Anyone out there know who it might have been??
"Bill, about six years ago I went to a show in Dublin(Ireland) Reba, and Skaggs, + Brad Paisley, There was also a singer by the name of Hancock and his steel player, played a three legged Hawaiian type guitar, and what he was getting out of that thing was magic to my ears. To me he stole the show and if you could suss out who he was and let me know I would be your friend forever. Wishey Quinn. Ireland." |

Could have been Wayne "The Train" Hancock, of which is mentioned on Herb Steiner's website.

That probably was Wayne and the steel player most likely was Jeremy Wakefield with his D8 Rickenbacker. I'm pretty sure he toured with Wayne over there. I watched him play with the Lucky Stars in Spain few weeks ago, and yes, he definately stole the show. |

I was on that tour, and yes it was Jeremy Wakefield with Wayne Hancock. They only got to play about 20 minutes on the big concerts, but we had some days off in Dublin and Wayne played a club gig there one night. They played for about 2 hours and Jeremy was amazing; consistently melodic and inventive. He's one of my favorite "non-pedal" players ever... |
