That would be forum member, the great Dicky Overbey! I cannot say enough great things about Dicky. Not only is he a great steel player, but he is also a great singer and songwriter. As a matter of fact, he wrote the title cut to that album "The Scene of the Crying".

Dicky is my favorite, and I hope to see him live someday. If you don't have it, be sure to order Dicky's CD, "HonkyTonkMemories.com". Every cut is stellar!!

Respectfully,
Dave Burr

Yes Jim, it is my understanding that Dicky recorded "The Scene of the Crying" on a 68' "push-pull" lovingly referred to as "Rosie". To my ears, I don't know that I've ever heard a recorded voice of a guitar that is it's equal.

Respectfully,

I used to own Rosie. She's a 1967 bolt-on that I got from Larry Keyt. Great sounding horn, but I'm blessed with more than one great sounding horn. So, in a fit of blind generosity , I sold it to Bobby Flores. In an even greater display of selfless altruism , Bobby sold it to Dicky. I feel sure this guitar is a perfect match with Dickmeister. At least, he allows as how that's so.

Thanks for the correction Herb. Rosie and Dicky are one powerful combination.

I dredged this one up because, thanks to Janice Brooks, I just got to listen to the CD for the first time today.

Boy, oh boy! If you like music where PSG dominates the you'll love this. Oh sure, there's some fine lead guitar and fiddles, but this is wall-to-wall steel and singing.

There is plenty of tone with a nice fat sustain. Great, great work by Dicky O.

I'm guessing that the "Donny Young" that wrote "Rest of My Years" is the same guy that later became famous as Johnny Paycheck.

Janice, thanks again for helping me buy a copy. You came through where Amazon.com couldn't.

You mentioned excellent fiddle on the recording as well. Any idea who that is?

And I think Dicky told me he used a Peavey Bandit on that session. His tone on that record might drive the price of them ole Bandits up a tad! One of my favorite records for tasteful, heart-felt steel playing. A clinic in back-up steel as far as I'm concerned.

Right you are, Tommy. I can't recall the lyrics yet but can already mouth several steel parts. Just the right amount of steel--say, about 1 metric ton!

Herb, what's a "Bold-On". I've never heard that term used to describe a steel. Please elaborate a bit for the uninitiated.

Jimmy C. Newman can still get it done. Beautiful duet with "Daydreaming".
