Who was the steel guitar player on Lefty Frizzell's records, circa 1952 ? (Mom & Dad's Waltz, I Love You Mostly, Two Friends of Mine etc.) Was that Curly Chalker ? What kind of steel was that ? I just love that sound !

Ed, Lefty used several players in the early 50's, Curly Chalker was probably the most prominent one (given his later career).

Other players who recorded with Lefty were:

Jimmy Kelly
Jimmie Curtis
Charley White
Paul Blunt
George McCoy
Dale Galley

I am sure we do have some experts on the forum who can provide more details about the topic!

Kind Regards, Walter

According to the book that comes with the Bear Family CD Collection:

Mom and Dad's Waltz - Recorded May 24, 1951:
Steel Guitar - Curly Chalker.

Two Friends Of Mine: - Recorded June 4, 1953:
Steel Guitar - Paul Blunt

I Love You Mostly - Recorded Oct. 5, 1954:
Steel Guitar - Paul Blunt

All three songs were recorded at Jim Beck Studios - Dallas, Texas

Hope this helps.
