and I don't mean your method for selecting the proper "stool" to sit on......
Jerry Byrd's "La Golondrina" is now playing on the Jerry Byrd Fan Club site and it is a fabulous instructional piece for how and when to use the bar for maxiumum affect.
Three-string, split string slants with slides, etc. If bar slants are giving you some concern, you might enjoying giving this tune a close listen. |

Thank You, Skip, ...for helping keep our dear and great Mentor's work and mission alive and well.
That sound file makes me miss him terribly; And makes me feel so inadequate in keeping some promises to him / his-mission.
Aloha,
DT~

Thanks Ray, for another great Jerry Byrd tune. I found some additional info that might be interesting to some. La Golondrina (The Swallow) was originally written in 1885 and has been recorded by numerous artists, including the great JB. Here's a description from one source: "While at Decca, he released a fantastic album called 'Hi Fi Guitar', in 1958 I think. Recorded in Nashville with the likes of Hank Garland & Grady Martin (lead guitars), Ray Edenton & Harold Bradley (rhythm guitars), and Bob Moore (bass), it contains the second version of 'Steelin' The Blues', a tremendous rendition of 'Remington Ride' and my top favorite, 'Slippery Elm', a fast, fluid number written by Byrd and fellow steeler, Walter Haynes." I hope these links work. Click the images.

Edited by Brad Bechtel to add %20 to the file name so the space in the file name would appear correctly and the URL would translate into something you could download.[This message was edited by Brad Bechtel on 15 August 2005 at 08:48 AM.] [This message was edited by Brad Bechtel on 15 August 2005 at 08:49 AM.] |

On third thought, just go to Ray's Jerry Byrd Fan Club for the tune. It's worth the surf! |
