My wife is starting to get a bit pi$$ed off with all the steel guitar bits and pieces, and tools, that a steel guitar tinkerer needs to satisfy his hobby. She is under the delusion that, one day, I'll say that I've finished the steel, no more modifications are necessary, and all the clutter can now be tidied up and put away in an orderly fashion. She has been under this delusion since 1983, and I think it is finally dawning on her that there is no light at the end of the tunnel !!

many good posts and wives here so far
i must agree that a tip of the brim goes to wives of musicians.
it's not an easy row to hoe
my wife and i have been together for 12 years and she has been quite supportive
she does find that i play a bit loud sometimes when practicing/rehearsing
having 4 kids that like Musik helps a lot.

Well, I might as well get my 2 cents in here.
Yes, "understanding" musicians wives are truly different. They have to be, because we are different too! And to find such a woman is a very rare and special find.
I knew Donna was going to be that kind of special woman the first time I was invited to her home. She had a nice house with a great room instead of a formal living room. But what was truely unique about the room was her selection of "furniture". Oh, there was the rustic charm of a cowhide covered couch and chairs, southwestern flavored decorations, etc. ......but also, an 8 foot pool table and a 1957 Wurlitzer juke-box (that played 45s). And on the juke-box was everything from George Jones, Patsy Cline, Conway Twitty, and a few "other types" of music for her kids. But I knew I had found the right gal because she declared her favorite on the juke-box was a little song by Santo & Johnny..."Sleepwalk".
Right now, my beautiful wife is upstairs working on some of the promotional material we have to share with the folks coming to the first Georgia Peach Jam session this Sunday in Hollonville. It is going to be great. So, she not only supports me in my love of music and the steel, she helps out the whole community when she can.
We've only been married for 5 years but I truly know how special she is and am thankful that I have the rest of my life to look forward to...... with her!

My wife is the best critic of my playing and i am proud that she will be honest . When i learn something new i ask for her openion ,sometimes it is'nt good ! But she will also tell me when she likes it to . She will also be the first to tell me that she still likes the sound of my Sho-Bud the best ! '' Wives '' what would we do without them ? Mine makes my life a lot better . Thank God for them . G.P.
When your wife finally becomes your best friend and consoles you for being dumped by your girl friend, and suggests that you shorten the "trial period" of dumping them if they don't get intimate after the third date, to two, as a way to cut household expenses..
You'll know that thirty years or more ago you made the right decision...
Now whether she did.....

IMHO I have the best of the best. She goes with me to play, and she sings also, (gospel only of course). She goes to the shows and likes to listen to the pickers but especially Doug Jernigan and John Hughey. She likes the others but over the years these two have really stood out because of their personalities and the ease of conversation with them. She is realy ready to go back to the Gospel Steel show in Indianapolis because it is so great. The value of the eternal message of Jesus Christ is most important and she loves it.
She even helps me carry some equipment and no matter what it is if I want more equipment, she says "buy it". She encourages me to buy another guitar if I want to. This is some of the reasons I think I have the best wife in the world.

I do not have a steel player's wife.
Yes I am married. Yes she does support my playing in any way you can measure. But she does so because she loves me, and the music I create, not because she loves the steel guitar (which she does not).

John,
unfortunaetly we don't all have happy contented wives.
Some were and never will be contented no matter if we were rich poor, perfect or a work in progress.
It is just not in their make up.
But for those that do, hold on tight, but not too tight...
And treat them like ladies...especially if the help move the equipment.
John just keep making your steel cry like you did when I visited, and some babe will pick you up sometime.
And start cooking you some good english breakfasts.
Remember for every nutter there's bound to be a nuttess!
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 18 June 2004 at 12:08 AM.]
