Jim Cohen-I am with you-Linda Ronstadt. I play a song called "What's New" on my steel, that I heard her do a fabulous job on. She is so Versatile.

But for Country singer, I as many others, go for Connie Smith. I think she is terrific and a great gal to boot....al Image

Narvel Felts
Bill Phillips
Curtis Potter
Johnny Bush
Tony Booth
Jack Greene
Rex Allen Jr.

Dave Nicely? Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Well, that's when I woke up. (Apologies to Tex.)

Yes, I've actually backed up some of these guys, but Dave's the only one who's put up with me, long term. Image

Tina Turner already had a country music Lp on the t.v. market many years ago. It was called, "Tina Turner Sings Country". Not sure who played steel on it? I think it was put out by RonCo?

Fortuitously & inexplicably, I've backed up nearly all my favorite singers, except for the Coal Miner's Daughter, at one time or another and I'd say Darrell McCall was the most fun and the most steel-friendly. But then you're playing in the shadow of the Big E... :-0>
Least favorite was Marty Brown. He runs around the stage knocking over drinks and cymbal stands and screaming in your face.

If Red Foley declined, then it would have to be Red Kirk, Ernie Lee, Judy Perkins, Patti Page, Mike Aldridge (Jeff Newman's great friend) and/or Hank Williams, Sr. Great vocalists in their time and shouldn't be forgotten.
[This message was edited by Ray Montee on 23 May 2004 at 12:43 PM.]
