Topic: THE REAL BOOK, which KEY? |

I am thinking of buying THE REAL BOOK VOL III (old standards + pop classics etc,) at shermusic.com. When I went to place my order I noticed I have the option of buying the music in either C, Bb, or Eb. Anybody with an E9th tuning have any experience with this? Thanks.

Gary, get the C book.
The Bb or Eb books are transposed, both chords and music, for horn players.
The C book is standard keys.
There is also an F book with normal chords, but the melodies in F bass clef for bass players.
One trick from Berklee is to mark the chords as I, IV, V, VII, etc. based on the key of the song,
then you can transpose to ANY key on the fly.
Especially use full with working with several singers on different nights
Amy wants D, Joe wants A, Sue wants F.
Same song, different keys
All are "I".

it is 7:45 AM 10 hours ahead of you,
and I am waiting for the boulanger (bakery) to open at 8am,
so I can get some milk for the coffee.
Yes I am up unusually early for me anyway.
I had little or no sleep last night because my bag got left 1 hour 1/2 drive away, each way,
with my sleep apnea machine in ito.
No sleep
Urge to kill.
So I get a 3 hour drive, but a free lunch today, and play my jazz gig tonight in a fog.
C'est la vie.

Not to get preachy here, but if you copy and distribute these the songwriters don't get a dime....
The Real Books are legal these days (they pay royalties). |

Sorry to have started something here.
I think I will go with THE REAL BOOK. When I think of all the other money I have spent on my steel, amp, video courses, getting the steel reconditioned, CDs of various famous steelers, Band In A Box, etc, a few more bucks to keep it legal isn't much.

Go with those Sher Music Real Books, they are well written and mostly approved by the composer and/or artist. |
