| Hello John, Brad Paisley is slated to perform at the Delaware County Fair in Walton, NY this year. This will be a Saturday night show, usually the end of the 3rd week in August, the 21st. | Randal Currie is Paisley's steel man. He has been known to get on the forum from time to time, although i have not seen him on here in a while. His dad is an active member though. Randal is an unbelievable player as well as one heck of a nice guy. If you can do yourself a favor and go see these guys if they are close. |

| I'll be spending the day with Randle on Friday. I have a show that night so I won't get to see Brad's show but may stay for sound check. I was one of the first guys Randel met when he and Rod Jansen moved from Canada to Eureka Springs, Ar for a gig that was over before they got here. I was working a club in Branson and they would come sit in often and started pickin' up a few road gigs here pretty quick then they moved on to Nashville. That was '94 or '95 I think. They have both been very good friends ever since and we talk on the phone about once a month or so. Rod has played guitar with several artist and is with Dirks Bentley now. Both are the best young men you'll ever meet. And both are outstanding players!! ESnow |

I saw Brad Paisley perform in Duluth Georgia about 3 weeks ago and I was very impressed with Randall. He wasn't afraid to crank up the volume and be heard. It happened to be his 21st birthday and someone in the crowd had made a poster that said "Happy Birthday Randall". Brad saw it and brought it up on stage and leaned it in front of Randall's Franklin PSG. Brad stopped the show and we all sang happy birthday to Randall. It was a neat moment.

| I was doing the Opry with Connie this past winter at the Ryman and caught his act first hand....he is truly a wonderful player and to me more importantly a wonderful YOUNG player....we need more players like Randal and Robert Rogers and young Abraham to keep the P.S. alive. |

I do believe the correct spelling is Randle Currie. His father, Keith Currie, posts here on the forum, and is a also very, very kind fellow, so the apple does not fall far from the tree. 
Also, I believe Randle is a bit older than 21. His birthday is May 7, though, which was the night of his Wild Bill's show that Bruce attended. Mr. Paisley has a habit of joking around severely when it comes to his band. Last time I saw them in Cowboys in Duluth (Atlanta), Brad introduced Randle with, "And on pedal steel, from Atlanta, Georgia... [*pause for audience applause*] Mr. Randle Currie!" Of course, Randle is actually from Calgary. Brad also introduced his fiddle player as "Justine Williamson" (read jus-TEEN, like a girl's name), when really, it's Justin Williamson (boy's name). Hardy har har.
Randle layed down all the pedal steel on Brad's newest album Mud on the Tires. If you don't have this album, you absolutely should get it, if only to hear the great pedal steel lines. Randle's opening main lick and solo on "Hold Me In Your Arms (And Let Me Fall)" are soooooooooo good (the solo shows off his subtle virtuosity). His break in "Make A Mistake With Me (Instrumental)" is also particularly enjoyable.
Randle is a big hero of mine, as Keith knows, and also Russ's lovely wife, Laney (since she asked me about my PSG idols ). I was attending a very good friend's college graduation that weekend so I had to miss the show, which is a shame, because I would have liked to chat with Randle again. On the other hand, being there for a longtime friend was worth missing a lot for. I'm sure I'll get plenty of more opportunities to pick Randle's brains in the future.  |
