Who's the Steeler/Wanda Jackson

Post by Jon Light »

The song is "My Big Iron Skillet". I've got a guess but I'm too chicken to put it out there. Seems I should know this from forum posts but I can't recall.

......but seriously ladies and germs.....cool intro with a real active thumbpick. I want to guess that it's Mr. Myrick but the background "little picking" (as I think of it) fills are not as active as I am familiar with from from Mr. Weldon. I know that somebody knows the answer to this.......

Let me check my Wanda Jackson record when I get home...

Buck Owens played most of those great guitar parts on those Wanda records. Maybe it was Mooney on the steel...

Some of the things she did in the 60s also had Curly Chalker on her recordings.

I don't know, but if Wanda Jackson had married Harold Hughes, then remarried Henry Kissinger, she's be Wanda Hughes Kissinger now.

My initial responce is Hal, but after seeing Hal and Weldon many times on the Opry, I would have to say that it easy could be Weldon (I used to have to look over to see who was playing).

Well, I listened to the song on Record Lady's site, and I hafta say that in sound and style, it's very similar to the playing in Dolly Parton's song "Dumb Blond".

Barnes and Noble list two steelers, Ralph Mooney and Pete Drake on the Bear Family collection. If that's the case, I'd guess Mooney.

David, sir, you win my everlasting appreciation. Take that and a coupla bucks and get yourself to starbucks and buy a cuppa joe.
I was flipping a coin between Weldon & Hal and Weldon won the coin toss but Mr. Green trumps all. Thank you Lloyd, thank you David, thank you everyone else who chimed in---thanks David Nichols--Bear family info is usually good enough for me but not this time, I guess.
Hey Dan Tyack--I looked at that Wanda Hughes Kissinger again and I'm so outraged at how bad that is that I challenge you to a cutting contest! Image

I Wanda Wanda who,b'dooo who.

If you read a little more carefully, David, you will see that you (and Lloyd) are the recipients of my appreciation. While it is truly very sincere appreciation and while I place a lot of value on my appreciation, that appreciation and your 2 bucks will get you a cup of coffee. It's a tuff world out there. Once upon a time my appreciation and a nickel would get you there. Maybe my appreciation is depreciating.
