Turn tables rule! King Kong idea! Sell us that stuff! Some of the best recordings ever and the whole first part of our steel guitar history is on vinal. Anyone that doesn't have one better go shopping! Lloyd Green's hits, Curly's, most of Buddy's, all of Bud Iaasic's, and the list goes on.
Ya' gotta' have it!

Have a turntable, but mostly use it to copy vinyl records to the computer and burn them to cd. Having said that, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to buy a LP. Don't really have a strong LP/cassette preference. I have many of both.

I have a brand new turntable I bought about three years ago. I've never used it because I don't want to have to plug a card in the computer. Is there an easier way? Isn't there an interface that you plug the turntable into, then USB into a computer? Also, don't you have to preamp the signal somehow? Alot of responses here that burn CD's but no one have elaborated on their setup. I have tons of LP's if someone could help out. Thanks

I have 3 turntables and just recently dug out some of my old LPs and was pleasantly surprised by the great sound quality of a well cared for LP. Also, boxes full of LPs can be picked up at public auctions for a "song" and you just might find a real treasure in the bottom of that box!!! I say list them, B0B! Image

Gimme the sound of an LP over cassettes any day. (And often over CDs as well!)

bOb, I still have a turntable, just put a new stylus in it and it sounds great. I recently purchase several Lloyd Green LP from a fellow forumite. They sound really good. I just need to find time to burn to CD so I can listen in the truck and in my practice room.

I would definitely choose LP over tape for a must-have album.

As HowardR said

I prefer the sound of LPs through a good sound system but CDs are just too convenient. I got rid of my vinyl and turntable years ago (but I sure wish I'd transfered most of it over to CD). I don't like cassettes either.

I would also prefer LPs over cassettes. Cassette dupe quality just isn't very high. Spent a lot of bucks this last year for a high quality needle and preamp so that I can burn CDs from my collection of vinyl that's not available on CD. Transfers are a slow ongoing process, with click and noise removal.

b0b,
I have a turntable and would probably be interested in some of those old Steel Guitar Record Club LP's. I have a couple. Can you post a list sometime of what you have in these?..........Thanks, JH

My direct-drive was over 20 years old when it was struck by lightning last summer. I replaced it with a Panasonic belt-drive unit for about $99 at Circuit City. It has a built-in preamp I can switch on or off; a preamp is required for input to a computer sound card. I only use it now for recording vinyls to CD's, which is a straight forward process.

Years ago I put all my records on Reel to Reel.and gave the records away.

I have turntable and prefer the sound over a CD hands down. I think pedal steel and acoustic guitars sound WAY better on analog equipment.

Thanks, everyone. I guess there is a demand for vinyl. I'll be putting together a web page listing the titles.

You asked for it, folks! I finally got around to doing an inventory of those LPs, and added them to the Forum catalog. Click here to see what's available.

Records are by no means dead, plus you can still special order them. I prefer it's warm sound . If you have a good turntable and a top notch cartridge & needle and take care of your records ---They will last a lifetime. Many of mine are 30 yrs old.
TURNTABLE---Dual 1229Q with a Shure M95HE cartridge tracking @3/4 of a gram .

b0b,
I have a turntable and use it occasionally.
I would prefer vinyl over cassettes. Then make your own cassette or cd.

I just bought a friends L.P. collection,to add to my existing collection. I would never be caught without a turntable. Isn't that a sin or something? Image

I bought a turntanble cassette combination back in October and since dampness is messing up my CD changer I use it for everything.
Saturday evening I pulled out the original
