Connie Smith and the Hall Of Famers

I just relaxed a bit and listened to the Connie Smith, my all time favorite singer. Her RCA material is fantastic, but this time I listened to her Columbia records from the mid-70's, material that's often underrated. Man, she is sounding great and the Steel Guitar playing!

On these albums you can hear non less than 6 Steel Guitar Legends: Weldon Myrick, Lloyd Green, Jimmy Day, Buddy Emmons, Hal Rugg and John Hughey!

Connie Smith is my husband's favorite singer also and his name is Walter. What is it about Walters and Connie?

Hmmh...I don't think that Connie's loyal group of fans is limited to Walters only?

For Billy: The box set by Bear Family covers her early years with RCA starting 1964, all those great records ("Cry, Cry, Cry", "Once A Day", Tiny Blue Transistor Radio" etc.). She recorded a total of nine albums for Columbia between 1973 and 1976, they all contain great music with Connie's unbelievable voice and all those Steel Guitar legends backing her up! These records are timeless!

If I had a favorite female country music singer Connie Smith would without doubt be the one. My wife bought the Connie Smith, Barbara Fairchild, Sharon White gospel CD and it is great. The songs have some great words and of course the steel playing is too.

Does anyone know if "When Your House is not a Home" was ever put on any of her CD's? I love this steel intro (Weldon I think) but I can't seem to locate the song.

No doubt, Connie was and is a great vocalist.

Please don't interfere - this is only for Walters (who have to be CS fans!).

To be serious: "When A House Is Not A Home" was on the album "Where Is My Castle (RCA LSP 4474) from 1971. I don't think this one was rereleased on CD so far. You're right, that's a beautiful intro!

Connie was on the Welk show. Mr. Welk ask her about her ambitions and I seem to recall that she ,in effect, said she just wanted to sing. And she could then and now. Jack

May not everybody's opinion, but for Connie - she really was "born to sing".
