Today I received a letter from Alvino--by way of his daughter, Liza Rey (a jazz harpist/pianist). I talked to her back in Feb. right after Alvino's death. She wrote a post script on his envelope saying: This was Alvino's last letter, Liza. I suppose the letter was temporarily misplaced. HJ

Dr. Hugh ... I had a similar experience years ago when my mother died suddenly at the age of 50 of a heart attack while on vacation. I received a long letter from her about a week after she had passed away ... the mail was very slow in those days. It really choked me up, believe me.

In a time of e-mail and instant communication, getting a personal letter, means a lot more.

To get the last missive from a great in your choosen field is both humbling and a fine honor.

Both to be considered a friend and to be thought of as his time drew near.
Doc, I am sure it must have been and remains a very emotional moment for you.
