Topic: Best Ear Monitors? |

Hey Guys,
Anybody here use ear monitors? I have a Samson unit with Shure E1 ear pieces. I am getting a real distorted sound and my steel dosnt sound meaty. Is there any ear peices that sound normal? This is the first time I have had to use these things. The band I am traveling with has no stage volume and I have to use these things. Any help would be appreciated.

Jeb, I've been using the Shure PSM 400 w/
E1's for about a year and a half with no problems. The key is a good mix. All I use is a Evans preamp w/Tubfex for effects into
a rack mounted direct box. My steel sounds great as do the rest of the band.

I've been really happy with my Sensaphonics ProPhonic 2XS in-ear monitors. They're a bit expensive though. I run them through a Shure PSM 400 hardwired.

Thanks guys,
We didnt have internet access last week in Ga. so I could not see the replies. I got the problem fixed. The gain from the board was much too low and this was the distorting problem. I am going to try your idea there Mr. Sonny. It sure sounds good for only 10 dollars. Thanks again for alls help.

The question was what is the best ear monitors, correct? I have used alot of different models and can say that I have found the futuresonic molds to be the best. They are expensive, about $1000.00, and you have to go to a hearing doctor to be tested and fitted for them beause they are specially molded for your ears, but the difference is amazing. I had to play with e-1's 2 weeks ago while I had my futuresonics upgraded to their new drivers and it was miserable. It was like going from fm to am. They are also very comfortable. Since they are molded to your ear, they fit perfectly. I can wear mine for a four hour gig and not feel any ear fatigue, and I can go home without my ears ringing. What a concept. I must admit though, I still miss the energy that you get from playing with a good sounding wedge. IMO nothing replaces air moving.
