I came across a cassette of Joaquin Murphey entitles "Hawaii Forever". It has a printed paper label that says "1972 Burge & Co., LTD" with a PO box in Hollywood. I don't have the case or J-card - just the bare cassette.
Does anyone know the story behind this recording?
None of the titles, which appear to be in Hawaiian, are familiar to me. It's a great instrumental album, though. I'd like to know more about it.

b0b, contact Tom Bradshaw. He had a copy of
"Hawaii Forever" by Joaquin Murphey, when I visited him in 1973. I think the song titles are in Pidgin-English. I believe Tom has the information you want.

I think that's the copy I have, Roger. It was in a box of stuff I got from Tom.
(I'd ask him, but I've been harassing him all day...) |

Could you make copies and perhaps sell them to members of the Forum?. I'm sure many would
love to have that. I for one would very much llike to buy a copy. |

You're reading my mind, Jody. I need to find out more about it before I can do that, though. I need to contact the rightful owner. |

Bob I have the LP of this and the date looks like 1964. It is in aplain white cover with large black letters "Hawaii Forever". The label is also white with black letters and in small print " Wakeen" Murphy. I purchased this many yrs ago at the St Louis convention from a group of LPs in a cardboard box that Jimmy Day had for sale. |

Another piece of the puzzle: I see it listed in Joe Goldmark's discography on the "Castle Cass." label, number "M-HA 137". No Google hits on that, either. |

Hi b0b,
I loaned my copy to Lee Jeffries. It does have a J-card. I don't know the lineage of it. However, I think Tom Bradshaw might, so you'll have to check in with him again. I never heard of the LP that was mentioned. That's real interesting. I wonder if Egil Skjelnes knows anything(he's the most knowledgeable guy on the planet when it comes to steel LPs and 45s)? |
