I'm sure you guys must be familiar with this 2CD set: Waylon LIVE the expanded edition, on BMG Heritage?? This is a great opportunity to hear a master steel guitarist at the top of his game. You'll get more Moon here than you will on most studio outings cuz on this recording Mr. Mooney is in there lurking about in some fashion for most of the 2CD's. Then Waylon says "Take it Moon!!" and look out!!! There's some psychedelic effects goin on here too, which for my money just adds to the party. Check it out with head phones for the full color effect. BW |

I think that was the best CD to come out last year.
42 tracks of Mooney's live pickin' from 1974. I realy like the Wynn Stewart songs that Waylon covered, and that the whole CD is Mooney taking almost all the fills and solo's. |

I don't know if you know...
There also was a video out from this show. I think it was called the "Lost Outlaw Performance", with lots of camera time for Mooney! It's one of my favorite tapes!
Kind Regards, Walter

Walter, I´m sure the "Lost Outlaw" performance was filmed four years later, in 1978 at the Grand Ole Opry. I know because I have the video. The CD mentioned above was put together from several concerts in Dallas and Austin in September, 1974. On both you´ll really get a big dose of Mooney. Both shows are superb, but Waylon in ´74 seems still a bit more "down home" to me. Also see my comments in the thread "Has Ralph Mooney recorded an album"

Thanks to this thread I ordered and received the 'Waylon - Renegade Outlaw Legend' DVD ($11.45 from EBay). The 'Lost Outlaw Performance' is part of the DVD.
As always, Waylon gives Ralph lots of breaks and the camera work focuses well on his playing (although not so much Mooney's two-footed playing style).
Can't believe I missed this one before now. Still have to get the BMG Heritage version of 'Waylon Live'. |
