Old tune - cannot find any trace
I was reading a back issue of PSGA magazine from the 1980's yesterday (no I dont have anything better to do), and I came across the tab for 'Maidens Prayer' by Jeff Newman. He says then that it was still one of the best dance numbers to do as an instrumental.
I have searched through all mt steel CDs and I cant find that anyone has recorded it or that there is a track available. Can anyone suggest someone who may have recorded it?

Here's a list of some artist/albums where you can find it:
Don Gibson - Best of (one of my favorites)
Bob Wills - Anthology
Emmons/Pennington - Swinging from the 40's thru the 80's
Bobby Hicks - Texas Crapshooter
Rickie Simpkins - Dancing on The Fingerboard (awesome instr duet with Tony Rice)
Ray Price - I Fall to Pieces (vinyl)
Osborne Brothers - Compilation
Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger
Asleep at the Wheel - Ride with Bob
This is by no means a comprehensive list - Just the ones I can think of that I have in my collection.
Respectfully,
Dave Burr

When Tom Bradshaw had the Steel Cassette
Club his promotion tape which he sent to everybody had a short clip of the late Gene O'Neil playing Maiden's Prayer. He had a fantastic sound and it was the best arrangement I have ever heard for this particular number. Grips, slides with wonderfull tone!!
Maybe it is in b0b's new library?

Bobby Hicks, one of the best fiddlers that ever pulled a bow, has a great cut on his "Texas Crapshooter" album and the "BIG E" does the steel work. Of all the versions I have heard, I like Buddy's work on this album the best. Needless to say, Buddy does not have a bad version..

There is a great version that hasn't been mentioned here so far:
The Pridesmen (Charley Pride's band) did it on the album "The Pridesmen" RCA APL-1-1190 from 1975. You gotta have to hear Gene O'Neal play on this one!

Apparently no one bought the '71–'72 Atteiram Productions Inc. issue of Billy Walker Presents “The Tennessee Walkers” on which I recorded Maiden's Prayer, using (5) Tracks. (2) Tracks of Identical-Steel (Sho-Bud) and (3) Tracks of Harmony-Strings w/Boss-Tone. I'm probably the only one who still has a copy! The late Grant Turner was kind enough to use it as background for his ‘Opry Spots, for a while in the '70's.

There is a great western swing/cowboy music radio show called swingin' west that broadcasts on the internet every Friday night by DJ Mike Gross. The playlist for this show is published ahead of time - and the show for this Friday night (1/23/04) will include "Buddy Emmons and the Swing Shift" playing Maiden's Prayer.
Here's the playlist: http://www.swinginwest.com/shows/show_012304.htm
Here's the website for the show:

btw, the show will also feature a musician's showcase of Speedy West.
Mike spins some great music - including our new CD - The Wallace Family - Texas Serenade.
Try to catch the show,
