| Yeah up here in the middle of nowhere.Candor NY.. Finger Lakes region. Anyway, I've been at it over 28 years and have a lot to say about steel playing,guitars,amps gigs,tone etc.I hope to get to know many of you. I am impressed by the knowledge and friendliness I've seen displayed here. Several legendary players too.. sharing ideas with beginners and intermediate players alike... pretty cool stuff! I'll probably post like a madman for awhile and then cool down when I run out of ideas.. bear with me please. Its good to be here! bob |

| Thanks Larry.. I've been keeping an eye on you guys for awhile and figured it was time to put my $.02 in ! I know the area you are from... foothills of the Adirondacks! I once traded a MSA double 10 XL for a Mint session 500 [the steel was used up,but he still got a killer deal from me]at Lark Street Music in Albany,and went to many classes for my job at Latham NY not too far from you. Any gigs for steel guys in your neck of NY? Not too many down here... I got them all !!! Its great to be here. I sure hope to be worthy contributor! bob |

Hey Bob,
I came from the Niagara Falls/Buffalo area, but moved away in '85. I'm here in
Lancaster, PA.
I think you'll really enjoy your Carter. I have a Crawford/Emmons push-pull and acquired a Carter a couple years ago for lighter weight, and the ability to add changes and experiment a bit. I was expecting somewhat of a compromise to the Emmons, but it really hasn't turned out that way. I'm loving the sound straight thru an old Session 400, and the guitar has gret action, and is just extremely comfortable, especially for someone like me, built on a smaller frame. Let me know how you make out.

Well Bob and Larry, I'm about half way between you folks in the Mohawk Valley. Got here by way of Virginia, Tennessee and Texas I guess.
After 14 years of playing full time around the world it's hard to believe I've been out of the business (at least at that level) three years longer than I was in it... whew, time flies.
Anyway, welcome Bob.

Glad to hear from you. I get over to the Utica area from time to time railfanning and bass-fishing. It's not too far west from me.
Hey Larry:
Yes, I do play for Clay Smith and The Fugitives. How long ago did you see us ?? I also do a gig for Commander Cody every now-and-again. It's a blast. But The Commander doesn't use pedal steel unless he gets extra dough these days. But he still loves it.!.!

| Candor! That's not in the middle of nowhere. It's in the middle of Owego and Ithaca, and one of the prettiest places in the southern tier. Welcome Bob, from a guy who grew up in Endwell and misses that part of the state pretty badly. Any good music going on up there? Back in college, I played the Elbow Inn a couple of times. Is it still there? |

I'm right across the river from Endwell, in Vestal. And no, The Elbow Room is no more. I used to play there alot(thru the 70's ,80's & 90's).Man, that place used to really pack them in! That was when they (me),was playin real Country Music

It was some time this past year or so I think.I believe it was in a place called "Bottems Up"

| Thanks guys... I DO remember You John Swain!!... We were in contact a lot 25 or so years ago!!! I was the only guy in Jersey who played an MSA remember??/ I use a lot of odd pulls and played my 3 pedal almost as much as my #1... I did play with Gabe in NYC!.. You may not remember this, but in the early 80's I scored a brand new mint Emmons D 10 [LeGrande???] for you for $800!!!! A guy wanted me to buy it but I didn't have the bread and called you. You snapped it right up if I remember correctly!.... anyway I'm still at it .. glad you are too ! Todd... I know you too ! We used to play in Candor on Friday night. This was back in 1972, and I don't even remeember the name of the place. We also played Shy Shields Rainbow Inn on Saturday night. I think that was around Groton or some place close. We sure could have used some chicken wire in front of that little stage. We've been living in the Atlanta Georgia area for some time now. Hope to retire this year and move back up. We plan to live at Lake Bonaparte, N.E. of Watertown. Thats really the sticks. By the way I've had my Carter for 3 years now, and really like it. |

Most of the family on both sides is still in that area. We still plan to get out the worst months of winter, like leave right after Christmas, and come back in April some time. I've grown partial to the north Georgia mountains. I'd love to spend the winters there,lots of pickin buddies, but the wife is lobbying real hard for the Naples Fla. area. When we get back I'll have to come down to Candor, and get to hear you play.
