Curly Chalker treasure find: Home tapes
Wow.... Randel Chalker, the other guitarist in the band I'm in out of Enterprise, Ala. is the nephew of the late great Curly C. and had some cassette tapes of stuff recorded around the house and some demo stuff and some Hee Haw jammin. Wow............. Live on Memorex... what a treat to get to listen to this stuff. Curly lives on in my tape deck as I type this. All I gotta say is Wow...

Jim Please Keep us informed, because I would like to get, buy a copy too.
Curly and I were Friends in the Late 70's and he recorded me an 8 track Tape of all things(wonder what ever happened to 8 tracks) of his latest Album at the time to play in my CB radio Shop in Hermitage TN. He was talking on his CB at home and it Bled into the recording as Curly had a 300 watt amp on his CB. He was Talking to Travis and it was real neat with His music in the background. It was one of my prized memories of Curly along with a Shobud Bar he gave me.
My Female Doberman had 8 puppies about 3 or 4 years ago and I was keeping them in the garage and they got into a box where I had it stored and ate that tape. If there ever was a case for animal abuse.....
At least they didn't eat the Sho Bud Bar.
I still have the bar and I carry it in my pocket to all the gigs I play, It may not help my guitar pickin, but it gives me Inspiration, confidence and comfort.
I would like to get some recordings of Curly playing Guitar,if there are any, he was a monster finger picker too, most folks don't know this.
I've been Blessed, When you get the chance to become friends with your all time hero, its a boring life after that.
All the other steelers in the world are competing for #2, Curly was and still is #1. Never be another like him!
I see you are a Bender Guy too.
John
BTW
Does Randel have that magical Chalker Talent too? I thought Curly's Son might, but he never did anything with the genes he inherited, sad story.

John,
Sorry to say,Randel is not blessed with Curley's talent. He,however, is almost a spitting image of Curley at the time of the release of Big Hits on Big Steel.I very much agree that for me Curley was the greatest steel guitar player that ever lived,an opinion that he also shared. May his memory never die!

I have always been a Chalker fan. Your post about the "Find" caused me to remember somewhere in my collection I have a 'Master Recording"that was never releasd of the late Jackie Phelps with Chalker playing some great E9. "Snowbird" and"Gentle on my Mind" were a couple songs I remember that were on it. He also did some great work on some "TELESTIALS" gospel albums. Ed Naylor Steel Guitar Works

Some of my early heros have left us and losing Curly was a very sad thing for me. He topped my list which included Chet and Speedy. It's true, we acquire new ones as they emerge on the scene but they take on their own identity, but Curly was truly one of a kind, of which, the likes we may never see again. I can never get enough of his playing.
