Just got home from a GREAT show by Gene Watson and his Farewell Party Band which includes Corky Owens playing some very tasteful stuff on his Carter. Corky had great tone and some killer licks, the band was great and so was Gene. I got a chance to chat with Corky, who is a real nice guy. It was a pleasure to hear some traditional country music for a change! |

Dyke, ain't Corky great? I believe there's ice water running in his veins. He has to be the most "unruffled" player I've ever seen on stage. He just gets it all laid back and blows your hat in the creek with his sound. One of the most under rated players in our genre, if you ask me..
Gene Watson is my hero. He has withstood the test of time, disease, and the stupid idiots who call themselves authorities on country music. Gene Watson IS COUNTRY MUSIC PERSONIFIED. That's my take on it. Why he's not in the Hall of Fame is a mystery to me. If anyone knows will they please tell me.

I saw Gene and Corky at Cowboy's in Dothan on Friday night. Talk about a show...Real country music. I think that has to be the best gig going, and Corky sure stands up to the job. |

Hey, guy's. Just walked in the door. You guy's are way too kind. But I do appreciate all the kind words. Gene has some great music to play and he always uses the best players on his albums. I feel like I have the best road gig out there. Dyke, you don't take a back seat to anyone. If you guy's want to hear a smooth player, go hear Dyke. I really enjoyed "Mansion on the Hill". Thanks again guy's. Corky.

I was lucky enough to see the show and both Dyke and Corky's Carter's sounded great. Dyke's wife Chrissy was tearing up the piano and vocals too. Corky and the guitar player played all sorts of twin licks throughout the show, and of course, Gene Watson sounded fantastic. It was an enjoyable evening! |

I opened a show about 10 yrs ago in Lawton, OK for Perfect Stranger. Corky was the steeler that night. I think he was playing a Mullen or a Franklin ...memory fails :-)
Good stuff!! Corky is a fine addition to the Gene Watson Show!
