Just came across this on the Prairie Home Companion website. http://www.prairiehome.org/performances/20021214/slide04.html The caption reads "Cindy Cashdollar on her slide guitar." Geez... Where did we go wrong??

usually Garrison gets it right, announcing steel guitar players. May just have been a flub.

Garrison DOES usually get it right; I think he got it right when BE was on. It's probably the fault of the web master or an assistant.

I don't want to "highjack" this post, but haven't a lot of steel players been featured on this program?...and I do mean featured....Garrison is defintely a friend to the steel guitar!
I know Buddy Emmons was on last year, I think.

Tony--a bit of a time warp, I'm afraid---I think Buddy's appearance was some 3 years ago. Time funs when you're having flies.

There's some irony in this post. Cindy was on several PHC shows in a row---last year? year before?---and was consistantly introduced by Garrison as playing Pedal Steel Guitar. I sent the following email:
quote:
Mr. Keillor. I'm a long, long time listener, a fan, and a pedal steel
guitar player. I come to you with this correction as I trust that you would
for me were you to hear me mis-stating some fact about ice fishing on a
northern midwestern lake. Ms. Cindy Cashdollar is wonderful. I love to
hear her play. I love to hear her play her NON-PEDAL STEEL. She does not
play pedal steel (the instrument that the great Buddy Emmons played on your
show a few years ago). The name (NON-PEDAL STEEL) is damned awkward and
STEEL GUITAR is an acceptable name. Is this important? Hell no, except to
the geek community of guitarists, steel and pedal steel, of which I am a
member.

ps-----thanks for having Cindy on your show these numerous times.

So did this have anything to do with his no longer calling it a PSG? I don't know. But as to "slide guitar", people's exhibit #1 above absolves me of any responsibility.
