Hello
I am trying one more Lp where you can help me identify the steeler.I have an LP by the band "Shoppe".The personell is listed,but I don`t know who play steel of them.Can you identify the steeler among these names?
Jack Wilcox,Clarke Wilcox,Lou Chavez,Mike Caldwell,Roger Ferguson,Wayland Patton & Rick Sparks.Hope you can help who`s the steeler of these.

I was probably the steel player with "The Shoppe". I never knew anyone else who recorded with them other than myself.
The band of course broke up years ago. Clark Wilcox (the leader then) is now an entertainment attorney and I see him quite often at the theater where I play. His brother Jack is in Washington state still booking bands. |

Hope you read this.Thanks for your answer.It is funny your name is not listed under "Personell",espesially since there is a steel tune "Steel guitar rag" on this LP called "You ain`t heard nothin` yet" Record is from 1983,and recorded in Rainbow studio.
+Pantego studio.
By the way-you asked for people playing MSA-
I played an single 10 MSA 3+4 in the mid 80`s,but never liked the single neck,so I went back to a double frame.The guitar is still i Norway,but not sure who own it today.
It was a green one,don`t remember the model,but it was a very nice built guitar,but I never found a good arm position playing a single neck.

As you know, The Shoppe was a self contained group which done extensive traveling, but they didn't have a steel player on the band.
They sold a lot of their recordings during their shows, so in my opinion their approach was that they wanted to get a sound on their recordings which they felt would appeal to a broader audience.
I believe their philosophy was, had they mentioned other names, that would elude to the fact they too were part of the regular band, and people would have asked where the other guys were.
I recorded a lot at Rainbow studio, in fact thats where I recorded my gospel project. I don't however remember recording with them at Pantego, although I have also recorded there a lot as well, but that was a long time ago as you know.

| HEY EGIL,& Reese....I know of at least one album that The Shoppe recorde here in Nashville with Charlie McCoy producing....I remember one of the titles was 'Doesn't anybody get high on love anymore'....I don't know why I remember that because I never got a copy of the album tho I played steel on it. |

Hey Reese....how are you guys doin' down there with Dumplin' and Jr....I bet they're having so much fun at 'work' that they don't even charge you a salary...right? right.....Laney talked to Joan the other night and she brought us up to date [sort of] on Johnny...sounds like he has a full plate....we're really looking forward to March so we can DO IT TO IT...it'll be a great time...you all take care and God bless.

Howdy Russ....Gotta tell you there's some "stuff" going on now that Johnny and Junior are working together.
Maybe next March when you're here you can visit the MSA factory and see their "lair" where we provide them food and shelter every day.
BTW....tell Laney hello and what a pleasure it was to meet her in St.Louis at Scotty's show. It was very kind and thoughtful of her to take the time to introduce herself to me. |

Hello Russ and Reece.
The tune you mention Russ is not on the album I have,so it seems like Reece is "in" on this one,Producer is not listed,and the album is recorded at Rainbow and Pantego.From 1983.

I don't remember the date..but I played on a couple of tracks for them at Pantego...the album cover was red white and blue like the flag with the Shoppe in the flag. Jerry Abbott was the enginner.

Hey.....it's beginning to look like I was saddly mistaken in thinking I was the only one who played steel on "The Shoppe's" recordings.
Next thing we know the Herbster is gonna tell us he too recorded with em.....I'm gonna have a talk with Clark Wilcox next time I see him. |

Hi all
Nice to see the comments on this-I did`nt knew they had so many albums.
The reason I asked about this album is the fact that it has the tune "Steel guitar rag" on it,and that is weird-to let a steeler play an instrumental on the album,and not list his name,or give credit!
