I'm not an agent: How much money do you have invested in your music related inventory? Do YOU have yours insured since most basic home coverages will exclude your musical instruments and jewelry? Do you ever leave your gear on the band stand overnight/the weekend or whatever? Where have you found the best insurance people to work with? Who provided you with the VALUE estimate of your guitars, fiddles, amps, etc.; and/or even drums/banjers?
I'd rather give my business to an agent that looks after you as opposed to taking your money and running. |

Oh, Oh,... I hope you didn't follow my intendedly HUMOROUS advice about cleaning formica with a blowtorch....
If so, I might know an agent here in the hood that might be able to tighten you up retroactively...

I have a rider for both my Windsurfing gear and Music gear through my Allstate Home Owners Ins... But I'm aware of these guys (all though I have not used them myself).

My homeowners insurance is with Allstate, and they cover all mymusic stuff in 2 categories-pro (leaves the house for gigs) and non-pro (never leaves the house-recording gear and such).
It adds about $300 year onto my policy (maybe a little less, as there's computers and other stuff on there as well) but it's well worth it. Obviously, it's for major disasters only-if you keep making claims over a couple hundred bucks in missing cables, they'll drop you. They also have my auto coverage, which would cover the gear in some instances as well.
Not all agencies will do this, but Allstate will. They will not do it unless it's attached to a homeowners policy, to my knowledge, and they're touchy about your credit. But I've been real happy with them when I've had other claims. They were the best when Lizzie had that bad wreck.
They will usually want a recipt copy for valuation. On guitars and such, a dealer appraisal will do.

The AFM is stiolo the best deal out there. I pay about 130/yr dues and another 125 or so for about 11000 in insurance. |

I have 2 expensive violas & bows plus all my p/a, steel and 6-string gear covered with Clarion. It is $250/year for any peril, no exclusions. Coverage is for $30,000 of replacement value.
I play the $500/night beer joint gigs, (that's $500 for the whole band) the violas are used by my daughters at school, in concerts, and on string quartet gigs in and around the Houston area.
We've never had any reason to make a claim, and I hope I never do - but when I see some of the places this equipment has to go into and get back out of alive, I am very happy to know it is covered.

I am not a big proponent of the Musicians Union. However, one thing they do have is a very inexpensive insurance policy for your instruments which protects the instrument at home, in your car and in the workplace. You can get $20,000 insurance for around $300 a year. Add your union dues to that and and the total cost is below $500 a year. That amounts to very cheap insurance.
