FOUR in the MORNING

Just listened to GARY CARPENTER's great presentation of "FOUR in the MORNING".
WHO IS THIS FINE PLAYER?
Out west we don't always find out what's "IN" until it's done and "GONE".
His selection of STRING VOICINGS are truly quite pretty, not always hanging up there on the chromatics. How Very Nice! His "BEYOND the SEA" is equally is listenable. WHERE has he been hiding all of these years? Or have I simply been too far out west?

Gary Carpenter to my knowledge is a very well known player down in Texas. And you are right, he's a super player. They have some greats down in Texas, and a lot of them are members of our forum.

"Carp" is no newbie.....everyone back this way have appreciated his ability for many years....you have a geography problem. Gary holds forth at the Finish Line in Ft Worth every Tues evening and you never know who might show up..Johnny Cox, Jim Snider on vocals..this guy might be the best "unlabeled" singer of Texas music you'll never hear. I used to suffer from the same malady as you...I corrected my problem in June 1980...got back hear where its at....heck, even players from Tennessee are moving hear..he he. On the serious side, there are probably at least 10 players in and around San Antonio that will blow your socks off..Overbey, Reinhart, Mathis, Edgington, Blanton, Price,Flores, Dailey, etc..the list goes on. Anyway, back to Carpenter, he's a great guy and as you know, an awesome talent.

About like Junior Knight? Gary has that seasoned "sound".....unlike so many frantic pickers of today.

Yeah, Gary is well "seasoned". He is, IMHO, one of this country's most underrated players. I personally rate him in the top 10. You probably never heard of him because he never really cared to tour like some players, or go to Nashville and do sessions, or make a career out of doing seminars or making videos and tab. Some of the more well known steelers that you and I are very familiar with, never have done anything but do seminars and instructional materials. That's not a knock on either. Gary's done a ton of session work locally, but hardly any major label stuff. He now owns his own bar/dance hall and is as happy as can be playing there all he wants. Plus he's about five minutes from his home. Not a bad deal.

In addition to the above posts about Carp, all of which I completely agree with, he's also a member of the Texas Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame.

My Mentor and I playing Twin Steels all night long...
Gary Carpenter is the Finest Man I've known(next to my Dad)and has been the Best friend I've ever had.

By the way> I play "Four in the Morning" as an instrumental and guess who's version I play it exactly like???>yep...Gary Carpenter.
