Update on attempts by Sirius radio to save the famous NYC nightclub. From Cage's newsgroup.

Sirius Leads Drive To Save The Bottom Line Update

Last month we told you that The Bottom Line, the legendary New York
club, was in danger of closing. Known for introducing some of the
biggest names in rock, folk and jazz and presenting many more, the
club had fallen on hard times due to the economic downturn and the
attack on the World Trade Center. As you may know Sirius Satellite
Radio agreed to pledge financial support to help the club with past
obligations and future expenses.

Thanks in part to SIRIUS" commitment, The Bottom Line and its
landlord , New York University, agreed to suspend eviction
proceedings for 30 days while they negotiated a new, long term lease
for the club. The 30 days are nearly up and unfortunately a lease
that satisfies both the club and the University
has not been agreed to, which again puts the club's long term
survival in doubt.

This has led to a grass roots campaign, involving NYU alumni
(http://www.savethebottomline.com/alumni.html) and music fans from
around the world (http://www.savethebottomline.com), urging a swift
and fair resolution to the impasse. Both parties are due back in
court in New York City on October 23.

NYU also bought out CBGB's. They will tear it down and put up more overpriced student housing first chance they get.

I would care a bit more about the Bottom Line if the guy that runs it wasn't such a dick. He tried to charge one band I was playing with for tap water the waitress brought back stage. The last gig I played there he made the 3 bands on the bill come to a production meeting that was basicly an hour of sitting there listening to him tell us how honored we were to be in his presence.

With that I hope they work it out. Its a drag watching downtown NYC turned into a faceless spa for a few rich kids.
