Steeler on "Kickin my dog around"?????????

As most forum members know I like animals , and also collect records. Yesterday I found a novelty song by "The New Christy Minstrials"And the song "The boys keep kickin my dog around" was a steel phrase or two- probably on a lap steel.Any idae who the player was????? Ed Naylor Steel Guitar Works

Never heard it by the N.C.M.,but I do have it by Wade Ray,on an album. Pretty cute song.
(I love animals too.)

Bob Dylan also recorded it. The song originally was written prior to the Civil War. I would like a copy of anyone doing it. This is just one item I can use helping some fund raising events to help solve the Animal Cruelty problem here in Ohio. I very involved in animal rescue and have personally been involved in the rescue of over 150 animals in the past few months.Ed Naylor Steel Guitar Works

Thanks Greg- This is the type info I need . Anything "Animal: related especially dogs andcats are the focus. When I was in Nashville someone sent me a record "Shall we walk or take the dog". A Tiny Tim type song but I have misplaced it.I need input from forumites about animal situations in thier ares.Ed

I was raised on the urban folk stuff of the late 50s and earlie 60s and clearly remember that song. The New Christie Minstrels were one of my favorite groups and I read their album liner notes up one side and down the other but I don't remember that the jackets ever identified who did or sang what. I do know that the group jump started the careers of Kenny Rogers, Barry McGuire and that japanese guy in The Association.

Back on topic...I'll bet that slide was just a glass 'bottleneck' on a Guild or Martin guitar. I was pretty bad as I recall. (My albums are all packed up for our move to Arizona so I can't just go listen once again.)

BD- I may be wrong on the "Minstrials" but I found a cassette and it was handwritten on the outside as the minstrials. I really believe the STEEL was a lap but the player couldn't hold his own {personal opinion} with Billy Robinson or Jerry Byrd etc. Ed
