I missed the first 15 minutes of the show live in Chicago.
Shania sings and entertains the audience & my what an audience!
Marc was out front playing great & got great camera coverage! Great for steel, way to go Marc & Shania. Your Steel the One!

I caught a few minutes of this and noticed that the steel work was excellent and up in the mix. There were multiple closeups of the steeler on his Derby. In spite of some negativity I have detected here about Shania, she is a big fan of pedal steel. While I'm not crazy about all of her stuff, I find the steel work in some of it very tasty. I personally think she is very talented... but that would be another thread entirely

Shania is starting a major tour at the end of Sept.
The first date is my town, Hamilton, Ontario. The big news here is insiders say they will do threes weeks of rehersals here, in the same arena. Our local hockey team, The Bulldogs, have argeed to move their training camp to make room for the rehersals.

That's pretty cool, since about 15 years ago she was playing the local clubs.

What a dynamite show! That little lady can sing. I also missed the first 15 minutes, but my wife was watching and said the steel playing was great and camera was on him most of the time during one song. Marc had a great tone and was well up in the mix. I watched the whole rest of the show and the steel sounded great. I liked the stuff he did on the lap steel too. The crowd was really into it and what a huge crowd of people. It's plain to see that Shania likes the steel guitar.......Carson

I just saw Shania perform on "Good Morning America" this morning, she was all pro and a star. She didn't do any disco looking stuff and now I really understand her cross over appeal. The girl is very pretty and sweet and sings great. She admitted that she is a crossover act and likes alot of different kinds of music. I don't see her as a threat to country music anymore but a blessing to crossover acts. They said she has now sold more records than any other woman in the history of music, wow! Oh yea, you should have seen here fill out her bell bottom jeans, lord have mercy!

Yes, Marc Muller is Shania's steel player, Marc is from New Jersey. That show was great exposure for steel guitar. Later on that same night Tim McGraw was on the "Tonight Show". Denny Hemingson, Tim's steel player did almost all the fill work and was really featured. Yesterday was a proud day for Steel Guitar on National Television. Not long ago, I saw another big T.V. special with Clint Black. Jeff Peterson, Clint's steel player, was featured out front and really did a great job of playing. In my opinion steel guitar is becoming more popular. One thing I might mention, is Marc Muller has his own intrumental CD. Marc sent me one and I can see why Shania hired Marc. Marc is a exceptional player. I had a very special feeling when watching these big television shows. It was a feeling I can't describe. Two words come to mind; Honored and humbled. Marc Muller, Denny Hemingson, and Jeff Peterson all use my volume pedal. Let me say, "Thanks!" to these great players, and the many other great players who use my pedal.

I caught Shania on the Early Show yesterday singing outside and it was indeed live. No trax, everone played live, and she sang live, no auto tune. Killer. Only 2 songs, and I didn't see Marc but he may have been playing regular guitar. I liked it-and she has been pushing steel up to the front recently. This may be a response to what seems to be growing interest in the instrument overall tho.

OK Don, I will give you a negative. I hate her because she married Mutt and not me. How's that?

Actually, I do like her.

My $.02: Shania's CD "The Woman In Me, " (I think that's the name--her first big one) is one of the most well-produced, hook-laden country/pop/whatever albums I've ever heard. Borrow your kid's copy and listen to this from start to finish one time. No filler, no fluff, every tune excellently written and performed. I also had the pleasure to work security a couple weeks ago for the band "Leahy," an Irish band with mind-blowing fiddle playing, who Shania hand picked to open for her for a few years.

The only negative for me was the detonation of that arsenal at the end of the show. It seemed so wasteful. Think of the heathens that could have been massacred if they had saved it.

Marc had a great sound on both the pedal steel and the lap steel.

I personally think it's time we old Dinosaurs hook onto something that is headed for the future...Shania is atypical of the new singers and musicians coming on the scene...She still uses steelers in her band and as previously stated, folks like Marc get front row seating and appear prominent in the mix...The hand writing is on the wall, while no one loves the old stuff from people like Price, Pride, Wills, and all the others more than I, it is a fact that the younger generation is here to stay...No one can write a song like "Release Me" again, it's already been done...I play in a band that not only does country music like I love, but we've had to move into the blues, classic rock genre, just in order to book....That's a fact of life here in this area....That also meant I would have rethink my music taste and get in line or I wouldn't have a job...But honestly I still can't find myself playing Pat Green or Charlie Robinson songs, but thankfully we don't get any request for them either. Pure and simple...That's my $.02 worth.

FRED

Fred Shannon speaks a lot of truth....if I hadn't done what Fred said I wouldn't have had my recent job with a Theater Show for two years....The cast thought the show was "country" but my background says that less than 10% of the playlist was what I had always believed country music to be! It was good experience however, because I learned a lot about contemporary country music!
