hi everyone
i'm gonna be in california from aug. 28th through sept. 2nd and was wondering if i could get some help from the locals. thursday the 28th and friday the 29th i'll be in san francisco, saturday night and monday night i'll be in bakersfield, with a trip to joshua tree sunday the 31st. i was wondering if anyone had recommendations for shows in the area while i'm up there. saturday i'm going to see buck owens (although a buddy recently saw him and said he was drunk and left the stage after 3 songs). monday i'm going to see red simpson and billy mize (assuming they're playing that night--does anyone know how i can find out for sure?).
keeping with the california country theme, if anyone has suggestions for interesting things to do or see while i'm up there, please let me know. i'm staying in room 8 of the joshua tree inn on sunday to pay homage to GP.

If you can't find anything if SF, I'll be at the 4th Street Tavern in San Rafael which is on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge a few miles. It's just a bar gig but it's a good band.

Hi and if you're in Bakersfield and looking for Red Simpson you can call his steel player, Larry Petree to find out when he is playing (usually at a place called "Trout's in Oildale, Larry's Tel# is:661-392-1544

I don't think Buck drinks. He's just getting old. My friend Jim played drums with Buck for 10 years and said that sometimes he doesn't even show up if he's not feeling well. I would call first, but then again the band is hot and Terry sounds great on the steel. The food is good too. And don't forget all the memorabilia and photos. It's almost like a museum. I've been there twice and loved it. Got lucky because Buck showed up both times and performed well. He even played leads on the Tele plugged into a Twin Reverb with no boxes or toys. It was great.

| Be sure to pick the video set of the TV shows from the 60s. They're great and a nice trip back in time with Tom Brumley doing what we all remember as milestone playing. |

hey guys
thanks so much for your help! i'm so excited to see both red and buck--this will be my first time to see either. (and also glad to hear that my friend 'misinterpreted' buck's appearance on stage--and that he's sober!) i'm glad that i'm straight now on that one. i'll call and make sure red's playing at trout's next monday. i really appreciate the info...
