Memphis? Nashville? New Orleans? Austin?

Post by Roland van Beveren »

Two of my friends, guitarist and drummer, will travel through the southern states this october. They are hitting for Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans, Austin...
What are the best places in town? The gigs they shouldn't miss? The bars with the hottest bands? Please be generous with your suggestions, thanks guys!

You didn't specify style, but Pat Ramsey and his band will be playing Louisville, KY October 31 and I'll bet they're going to add some more Oct. dates. Pat is the best blues harmonica player I've ever heard and his band is fierce - no pedal steel, alas.... http://www.patramsey.com/

Thanks, David. Delta blues, city blues, hardcore bluegrass, oldskool country, western swing, cajun, zydeco, rockabilly...
any style is OK as long as the music is good! Thanks again. Any more hints please?

Hey, Roland. I'm coming to Amsterdam in a week, so I'll tell you my favorite Austin clubs if you tell me where the best blues is in Amsterdam, OK? Image

Most of the Austin forumites will probably suggest The Broken Spoke and the Continental Club. I would agree and add the Saxon Pub to the list. Auschron.com will tell you who is coming to town.

When in Memphis go to Hernando's Hideaway.
This club has Cowboy Eddie Long playing steel. He played for years with Hank Jr. and
is a monster picker.

Thanks for the hint, Chuck. That's exactly what we need: monster pickers!

If they are in Nashville on a Monday night, tell them to check out The Timejumpers (Western Swing with Johnny Cox on Steel) at a place called the Station Inn on 12th ave. Also on Monday in Nashville ( if they aren't out on the road ) check out the Bluebloods (Blues featuring Mike Henderson on Slide Guitar)at the Bluebird Cafe on Hillsboro Road. In New Orleans, check out a Jazz band called 3NOW4 which has Dave Easley playing steel. He also plays with a few other bands, one of them is called the Heartafacts.
[This message was edited by Bob Watson on 09 August 2003 at 01:05 PM.]
